Recently, I was sorting out the pantry and found an old frying pan in it, covered with fumes, dirt and dust. At first I was surprised what she was doing in the pantry at all, because the place for such kitchen utensils was in the trash. But then I remembered that I once wanted to return the pan to a presentable appearance, to give a “second life”, and therefore I hid it. But I forgot about my good intentions and this old vessel lay idle for several years.
Why didn't I take the pan to the trash? First of all, because these kitchen utensils are literally eternal. After all, it’s true that Soviet frying pans have been serving for more than a dozen years in a row and practically nothing happens to them. But the purchased modern pans with non-stick coating are enough for me on the strength of 3 years.
Today's manufacturers make their dishes too delicate. I remember once I accidentally scratched the coating of the pan, touching it a little with a fork. As you know, you can’t use dishes with a damaged non-stick layer, so I just had to throw it away.
I decided to bring to life my old idea and clean the pan from the soot that had accumulated on it for years. If you also have a cast-iron frying pan gathering dust somewhere in the pantry or on the mezzanine, try using my method.
I "brought back to life" an aluminum frying pan. But the described method is also suitable for cast iron cookware. Therefore, you can safely use it: the method is harmless, effective and very budgetary.
You need to prepare a cleanser. It consists of mustard powder, baking soda, purified water and glue (silicate or regular stationery will do). Agree, a simple list of ingredients.
Let's start preparing the remedy:
- 1. We find a suitable large container, which will include 5 liters of water. We put water on the stove until it boils.
- 2. When the water boils well, add about 70 grams of soda to it and mix.
- 3. Then pour 100 ml of glue there and stir again.
- 4. Add about 100 g of mustard powder to the mixture. We stir.
- The cleaner is ready to use. Without removing the pan from the stove, lower the dirty pan into the boiling composition and leave for at least an hour.
- Then we take out the vessel from the product, let it cool a little and scrape off the soot from the surface with a sharp knife. It will soften and come off the pan easily.
- After removing the layer of dirt and soot, dip the pan again in boiling detergent for about 15 minutes. Then take it out and let it cool completely.
- If fragments of soot remain in the pan, rub it with a metal sponge with mustard powder.
- Finally, rinse thoroughly under running water and pat dry.
Admire how my old frying pan looks now, which I intended to say goodbye to. Now I fry my favorite potatoes on it. And most importantly, you can eat with a fork from an aluminum pan without fear of damaging the coating! Still, some old proven things are better than new ones!
