Why it is impossible to fasten the profiled sheet to the fence with self-tapping screws. Learn from the mistakes of others (showing what happened with us)

How I have long dreamed of a house in the village, of my own plot where I can grow vegetables, I will equip a cozy recreation area in the shade of a large tree. Finally the dream came true. We bought a small plot with a nice house - a great place to relax and take a break from the bustle of the city.

Initially, the site was fenced with a grid. This option of the fence did not suit me, and therefore I decided to enclose the purchased land with a deaf fence made of corrugated board.

Why did I choose this material? First, it's cheap. Secondly, professional sheets are light. Thirdly, it is convenient to work with them, they are simply mounted. And now, a week later, we hid the site from prying eyes. In total, the length of the fence was 75 meters.

I decided to devote today's article to fences from profiled sheets. It was said above that this material has a lot of advantages. But over time, I discovered that it also has quite a few shortcomings. At first glance, everything seems perfect, but after a couple of years, the nuances and problems begin to come out.

It turned out that I made a gross mistake even at the stage of installing the fence. I fastened the profiled sheets with roofing screws. I think many of you would also think of attaching the material in this way. One mistake led to a string of troubles.

Why are roofing screws bad?

  • 1. They do not protect the site in any way, for example, from thieves. The fact is that everyone can easily unscrew the screw from the profiled sheet. Those. while we are away at the dacha, anyone can dismantle the fence. I would like to believe that no one will think of this before, but there are risks!
  • 2. The places where the screws are screwed in over time become overgrown with rust. Precipitation constantly gets into the holes, which leads to corrosion of the profiled sheets. The appearance of the fence suffers greatly from this.

Fortunately, this problem can be avoided. So that the holes do not rust over time, it is necessary to use galvanized rivets for fixing profiled sheets. They are not so easy to unscrew from the fence, and they do not corrode. I will fasten my next fence with just such rivets.

  • 3. Self-tapping screws burn out in direct sunlight. As a result, they visually stand out against the background of the fence.

If you have to build a fence, and you have chosen professional sheets for this purpose, be sure to remember my bitter experience. Better to learn from others than from your own mistakes!
