Russian processors and the future of domestic electronics

  • Dec 24, 2019

Seeing processor Elbrus-8C, just remember the old joke about the fact that Russia's microprocessors are the largest in the world.

Processor housing really is several times more conventional processors, but is unusual in Elbrus not only the size of the body.

Now the city Innopolis near Kazan (by the way, is the only city in Russia, built from scratch in the 21st century) hosts conference Cipro - Digital Industry Industry Russia, Which in addition to Elbrus processors presented many of Russia's development, and conducted discussions on the future of Russian electronics and digital technology. For four days in Cipro 2016 more than three thousand people will take part. As part of the 45 panel sessions and 12 special events at the conference will include 270 speakers.

Now the volume of the Russian electronics market is nearly three trillion rubles.

Growth of the Russian electronics market in 2015 in different segments ranged from 2.5 to 15%.

The exhibition of Russian technologies on the CIPRO was featured line of processors Russian Elbrus.

The purpose of these processors - work in servers and workstations of government agencies and business organizations, has high requirements for information security.

Elbrus processors are fully developed in Russia, they do not use licensed components of Western companies.

Moreover, the instruction set they also own. The base operating system for these processors is the OS "Elbrus" that is based on the Linux kernel. Elbrus recompiled for many popular applications. In addition there is a mode of software and hardware emulation of Intel processors, in which a computer, built on a processor Elbrus, 64-bit Windows can be set in which any popular applications run successfully (for example, 1C Consultant Plus).

8-core 64-bit processor Elbrus-8S manufactured by technology of 28 nm and has a 250 GFLOPS computing power at an operating frequency of 1.3 GHz. The processor works with a conventional DDR3 memory. Fully Russian design ensures no bookmarks in the processor, even though he made on the Taiwan factory TSMC.

In Russia now debugged production of chips with only 90 nm process technology. Such technology is made single-core processor-2GM Elbrus, which is not only fully developed, but also promoted in Russia. This processor can be used in equipment that does not require large computing power.

The exhibition was shown running on a computer processor Elbrus-8C.

Elbrus Server 4.4 to four quad-core processors Elbrus-6C.

In addition to processors Elbrus, it was much more interesting in the exhibition, and the conference is discussing such important topics as prospects for implementation in Russia 5G mobile networks, plans to create a domestic element base of electronics manufacturing experience in Russia.

According to the conference participants after 4 years Russia will be able to produce itself all critical electronic components for military applications, and in 10 years the share of domestic components in the development of Russian electronics (both military and civilian) may reach 70%.
