A rather surprising incident happened to me recently. I want to tell you about it today.
I noticed that a neighbor in the country was pouring some kind of incomprehensible gray mass onto her beds. At first it seemed to me that it was ash. However, the gray color alarmed. After a while, the neighbor admitted that she was pouring the most ordinary cement!
Of course, I was surprised. I haven’t come across anything like this. Having understood my reaction, the woman decided to tell more about the "garden trick".
Once on TV, she saw that gardeners used a mixture of powdered spruce needles and crushed ash to mulch strawberries and peppers.
As I understand it, the host of the program said that the main advantage of such mulching is that the mixture does not allow the sun's rays to penetrate deep into the ground. In addition, moisture evaporates from the soil.
But I still didn't understand why my neighbor needed cement. So I asked again. Do you know what this sweet and naive woman answered me? That the sun does not matter what it shines on, and the rays will be reflected from anything.
From the gray, the neighbor found only cement, so she decided to put it into business.I concluded that the TV presenter focused on the color of the mulch, without focusing on the composition and fraction of the mixture. This is what confused my neighbor. I immediately gave her a lecture, told her about the composition of the cement. He said that limestone and clay are sintered and if gypsum is added to this mixture, then the fertility of the soil will clearly suffer.
Fortunately, I managed to reach my neighbor. She quickly removed the cement from the beds.
This is how I saved her harvest! )))
