Surely everyone knows that different types of wood burn in different ways. How to choose the right firewood? Naturally, the most important indicator is the moisture content of the wood. If the wood is thoroughly dried beforehand, then in any case it will burn well, giving off heat. Here it should be borne in mind that the effect depends on the type of wood: heavy and dense firewood gives more heat.
Take oak, for example. It is heavy and dense, and therefore such a log gives 60% more heat than a light alder log. The key is weight. If we take the same amount of firewood from alder and oak by weight, then the result of burning will be the same.
For clarity: in the photo there are logs from a woodshed. The longer is alder. It weighs less than a shorter birch. A similar situation with firewood. Take identical aspen and birch logs; as a result, the birch log will be heavier.
When you choose from which wood to prepare firewood, first of all you need to understand their intended purpose. The oven in the bath must quickly heat the room to a high temperature. In this case, the faster the better. Therefore, you need to choose dense rocks that give a lot of heat, well heating stones and a stove.
And if you heat the house, then the situation is slightly different. An active fire is needed here, while the oven temperature should not be too high.
I prefer to harvest birch and aspen firewood. Of the available breeds, the following can be distinguished:
- Oak and birch. If it is possible to prepare oak, then this is an ideal option for sauna stoves. With its help, you can quickly heat the firebox and heat the room. The birch must first be dried, just make sure that it does not start to deteriorate. It takes more time to dry the oak.
- From ate there is not too much heat, so it is not suitable for a bath. But for the house - another matter. Spruce wood is a great option for a heating stove. Also, a good ignition is obtained from spruce. When spruce logs burn, they crackle characteristically. This happens because pockets of resin explode, forming sparks.
- Aspen logs burn evenly, but give little heat. It is not advisable to heat the bathhouse with them, but to heat the house is, please. Aspen pricks well into small chips suitable for ignition.
- From pine logs there will be a lot of heat if dry thoroughly. Raw wood will take a long time to start a fire. In addition, pine does not pollute the chimney as much.
I prefer to harvest aspen so that it burns evenly and beautifully in a home stove. And the birch helps me to quickly heat the bath. My business is to advise, then decide for yourself which breeds are suitable for your needs.
