Most of the saunas and baths today are lined with clapboard. However, this popular material has a significant drawback: it loses its original appearance with prolonged exposure to high temperatures and moisture. Over time, the lining begins to darken and deteriorate.
The wood should be treated periodically. The use of special products will help protect the material from the harmful effects of heat and moisture. I want to note right away that not every tool can handle wood. For example, if you take ordinary paint, then from high temperatures harmful vapors will begin to be released from it. For human health, this can be extremely dangerous and even destructive.
I will also say that the lining can be treated with nothing at all. Just be prepared for the fact that the skin will need to be updated periodically. Agree to change the lining in the bath every five years? I think no! If, after such an argument, you still decide to process the lining, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the best means.
How to protect the lining in the bath and sauna
I'll start with the tools at hand that are quite suitable for processing the lining. The development of rotting is prevented by drying oil, linseed oil and antiseptics suitable for wood. Using the latter, do not forget to cover the lining on top with ship varnish. This will enhance and reinforce the effect.
Special protective equipment with which the lining is treated received good reviews. They can withstand high temperatures and humidity. I would like to highlight a product called "Sauna" produced by "Belinka". It protects the material from rapid deterioration.
On the positive side, the funds "Supi Saunasuoja" (produced by "Tikkurila") and "U-409" (produced by "Usadba") have proven themselves. The manufacturers themselves declare that their preparations contain exclusively natural ingredients. Those. there is no "chemistry" in them. I would like to believe that this is true! After applying the products to the wood, it is covered with a thin invisible film. Thanks to this, the lining does not deteriorate and retains its appearance for many years.
For those who prefer folk remedies
Among the most inexpensive and effective folk remedies, I want to include natural oils and wax. Ordinary refined oil is a very low-cost option for protecting the lining of a sauna and bath.
Hemp and linseed oils are also suitable for wood processing (you can mix them - also an excellent antiseptic). If you choose to use refined oil, add lavender or anise oil to it. Thanks to this, your sauna will be filled with a unique pleasant aroma.
Remember that no paints and varnishes are suitable for steam rooms. Indeed, when exposed to high temperatures, they will begin to emit hazardous substances! Take care of your health!
