Dreams should come true! Today I bring to your attention five of the most unusual flowering plants native to Australia. I really would like to grow, at least some of them, on my plot, or just at home in a pot.
I hope that some of them will be able to take root in our gardens, even in the difficult Russian climate.
Grevillea
A fabulously beautiful evergreen shrub. Depending on the variety - from half a meter to... In its homeland, the plant grows up to 30 meters in height.
But, since most of our gardeners grow Grevillea in pots to move it into the house in winter, the average height reaches 1.5-2 meters.
The plant belongs to deciduous, but due to the unusual shape of the leaves it resembles our... Christmas tree. With the difference that instead of multi-colored balls, flowers hang in bunches on the branches - tubular inflorescences are most often pink (there are white and purple).
Banksia
An incredibly ornamental plant. In our conditions - undersized. It reminds pessimists of a gift version of a household brush, optimists - a fantastic soft, very sweet (!) Cactus.
The colors are very diverse:
- from milky, beige and lemon yellow
- to cherry and fiery red.
The advantage is that after cutting the flower remains intact for several months and can serve as an unforgettable addition to the most exquisite gift!
Anigosantos
An evergreen perennial plant. For the unusual shape of elongated inflorescences popularly nicknamed "kangaroo legs".
Unlike the two previous "foreigners", it is not quite whimsical to care for: it easily tolerates heat, temperature changes, but loves bright light and abundant watering.
The unique properties of Anigosanthos include the unpredictable two-color of its inflorescences: black-red, violet-green, and others.
Telopea
One of the symbols of Australia. And not for nothing - translated from Latin, the name of the flower means "visible from afar."
Luxurious huge red flowers (rarely white) on fleshy legs amaze the imagination. The height of the bushes reaches 4 meters.
The royal beauty of Telopea is reflected in the canvases of many artists from different centuries, and now this queen can easily settle in your garden!
Swineson's beautiful
Plant of the legume family. A perennial evergreen liana of fifty species at once. The branches are up to 3 meters long, and the flowers are 9 cm in diameter.
The amazing shape of the flower evokes its own associations for every fan. For example, it reminds me of small fiery red birds with black heads, huddled in small flocks. An unconditional decoration for any garden!
I strongly advise everyone to acquire these fabulous plants in order to settle them, if not between the usual asters, roses and gladioli, then simply as indoor plants. Such beauty will delight even the most demanding flower growers! Did you like it?
