Growing dill - it would seem, what could be easier? But no - in some gardeners it immediately turns yellow, in others it does not grow at all, and if it has sprung up, it is exhausted early and shoots out "umbrellas".
Strange as it may seem, most of all pleases with dill growing by self-sowing - since last year. But this harvest is already ending by the beginning of summer, I want fresh tender greens ...
The secret of sowing super dill
In early June, I sow this "vitamin explosion" according to a special "recipe."
1. In the ridge I make furrows a couple of centimeters deep.
2. I pour compost or purchased loose soil into the furrows with a thin layer. If you sow dill in ordinary garden soil (even if fertilized), you should not count on an excellent result: due to the lack of oxygen in dense soil, it will turn yellow and will grow "somehow".
3. I spill furrows well with warm water.
4. I sow seeds abundantly - the thicker the better. So all the forces of the plant will go into the greenery, and not into the formation of umbrellas.
5. Sprinkle with earth, slap it with my palms and water abundantly.
Important! Watering should be very generous before germination, as dill seeds contain essential oils that need to be "activated".
Seeds "for sure"
Almost any type of dill can be planted using the method described above. But there are those among them that certainly guarantee the result "without umbrellas" - varieties with a long growing season. Every summer I always plant "Alligator", "Salute" and "Buyan".
They should not be placed too densely - on the contrary, after germination it is necessary to thin out, avoiding excessive shading. I thin them straight into the salad - right with the roots, which contain incredible amounts of the first summer vitamins.
At the same time, careful weeding is very important - weeds that appear on the beds draw strength from the soil and shade the dill itself.
Note! You need to deliberately choose a place for planting dill: the more sun there is, the more beautiful, stronger and juicier your miracle greens will be!
To help
Like all garden crops, dill must be fertilized.
For this I use ordinary manure, diluting it in a ratio of 1 to 10, as well as an infusion of nettle: in the evening I cut the nettle into a bucket, fill it with water, and in the morning I water it. This "green dressing", in addition to the vitamin effect, scares away various unnecessary insects from dill, which flock and slide down to the attractive smell of essential oils.
May the future harvest bring you only joy, vitamins and garden inspiration with the help of our advice!
