Any gardener dreams of getting a harvest of cucumbers as early as possible. In the middle lane, the May weather grieves with recurrent frosts. To get an early harvest of cucumbers, 3 important factors are needed: light, heat and moisture. Temperatures below 14 degrees will ruin tender seedlings. But you can still cheat the calendar.
It is possible to get an early harvest of zelents if:
- In the first decade of March, sow seeds for seedlings in the usual way.
- Plant seedlings in open ground in early April in a warm bed prepared in advance.
If there are animals in a private courtyard, then there will be no problems in creating a warm garden. Fresh manure is a finished biofuel.
- Lay it in a bunch in the fall on a sunny and calm area where you are going to grow cucumbers.
- Do not level! And pour a layer of earth on the surface of the heap, close it with burlap, on top with a film. Leave in this state for the winter.
- Free from the shelter when the snow has not melted yet.
- Dig up, form a bed.
The access of air will force the bacteria to activate, which will serve as rapid self-heating up to +50 degrees. To prevent the bed from cooling, it must be covered with black plastic wrap. Then nature will do everything herself, - the bed will "burn" regardless of the time of day.
By the beginning of April, 2 true leaves appear on each sprout.
On the film, in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 30 cm from each other, make cross cuts and grooves into which to plant young seedlings.
Seal, cover with earth, set arcs, stretch transparent plastic wrap.
Important! Expecting a cold snap, it is worth insuring yourself with additional shelter - over each sprout, build a miniature greenhouse from a five-liter bottle with a cut bottom. On warm days, leave the film cover only overnight.
The first cucumbers will appear in early May.
Autumn leaves instead of dung
At the present time, it is difficult to bring manure to the site. It can be replaced with fallen autumn leaves collected from the forest.
The process for creating a warm bed is the same.
BUT! Before planting seedlings, it is necessary to spill the entire surface of the garden with boiling water and hold it under the film for several hours.
The mixture of foliage and earth heats up a little weaker, but decomposed organic matter in any case provides warmth and nutrition. Biofuels from decayed foliage provide nitrogen to plants. In 2 weeks after transplanting, water the plants with a weak solution of mineral fertilizer.
Collection of cucumber seeds
Remove the large, overripe cucumber from the garden and keep it in the sun until the fruit turns dark yellow. Cut the cucumber with a knife closer to the tail. The seeds inside the fruit are arranged in a circle. Bitter-free cucumbers grow from seeds taken from the top, so the tailed portion is not needed. Remove the pulp with a spoon, select seeds, rinse well and dry. Use the seed for the next season.
