Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of my channel!
It all started with our tour of the agricultural fair, then the seller "zatuli" us a fig seedling (variety "Honey") for 800 rubles. I was led to believe that a man suggested a variety that does not freeze even at -35 ° C and supposedly in 5 years you can collect 5-10 buckets of harvest from a bush.
Of course, I caught myself thinking that this was "chatting" the buyer and strongly did not believe what was being said. But, I took a chance... The cost of losing is very small.
Below, I give the size of the bush after 2 and 3 years (photos September 2019 and 2020):
In fact, figs grow at an incredible rate. The seedling was purchased in October 2017, a year later the growth was 20 cm, a year later - 30 cm, now the height of the bush is 1.6 m.
I waited for 3 years, well, when will "my" figs please the family with their fruits. The berries were set in June and continue to ripen to this day.
In my photos, you can see that among the ripe fruits there are also green ones, which need about a week or two more. Of course, October-November is already late, in the South they would have harvested a long time ago, after all, this is a southern berry.
At the moment (as of 02.11.2020), the air temperature in our country has not yet dropped below +5 ° C, but even so, the figs still continue to form new branches from the stem and in parallel feed the fruits.
I never thought that figs could be grown in Rostov-on-Don. Below is the photo that the spouse took yesterday (11/01/2020) just for her daughter's birthday.
It was poured so that it even cracks:
More than 3 kg have already been collected, the same amount remains on the branches.
Despite the fact that the fig is a remontant, in May it gives not so much harvest, more precisely - 10 times less. It is possible that I have not yet figured out how to feed him properly, but the matter is fixable. Everything is learned through experience ...
In a week, I will prepare him for the winter. The bush needs to be covered from ice, since the structure of the branches is hollow, respectively, they are very fragile. In freezing rain, it is very likely to damage the bush.
Last year, the shelter frame was huge:
I don’t know what to make this year, but we need to come up with a structure with less windage, while not losing its effectiveness.
That's all, thanks for your attention! Good luck and good!
Why fill a monolithic floor if it will only be harder for grandchildren to demolish this house?
"I will buy a house and I will have a rest" - Well, well! How much will the maintenance of the house cost if the owner only rests?
The foundation left for the winter (3 rules so as not to squeeze out frosty heaving)
