Price discrepancy between the price tag and the product. Why is there a higher probability of overpaying when paying by card than in cash?

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of my channel!

You, most likely, often come across a situation when price tags hang on the shelves in the store or stand next to the goods to which they are completely or the second option does not apply, the price tag belongs to the product, only the price on it is understated due to the fact that someone simply forgot it re-glue. In this article, I want to explain why, when paying by card, we can "screw up" this situation ...

Now I am installing ceiling plinths, I bought them, but I forgot to take the assembly glue. I roughly estimated how many tubes I would need and decided to go to a construction supermarket, because in addition to glue, I need a few more products that are not sold everywhere.

I arrived at the store, chose everything, put it in a cart, counted in my head how much the whole purchase would cost, went to the cashier. The girl "picked up" the product and asks: "Cash or card?".

I answer: - Non-cash!
Cashier: - Please, attach your card!

I paid for the purchases, I blurted out my phone in my pocket - I received an SMS message about the write-off of money, she gives me a check, I put the building materials in a bag, the check is there, and I head to the exit ...

I got into the car, I looked at the SMS - 2,520 rubles were written off, and I figured that the whole purchase would cost about 2,000 rubles. It's good that I didn't throw out the check, I check it by the check - the price of assembly glue is 380 rubles, and the price tag was 290 rubles. How so? The difference is 90 rubles. for each tube, and 5 of them were bought.

I went to investigate. It turns out that there was a revaluation of the goods, but no one changed the price tag.

I had to spend 10 minutes to settle the issue and recalculate the cost according to the price tag, because there is a law "On Consumer Protection"!

But it's not that! I'm not the only one who puts a check straight into the bag without looking ...

In the course of the dispute, when I wanted to have the cost calculated for me, the cashier threw the following phrase: "The difference is only 450 rubles, why are you finding fault, we stand on our feet all day, of course we can be wrong. In general, non-cash holders do not respond, but you are one of the few who noticed "

And here I wondered what it means to be one of the few who noticed... And all the "salt" of the situation is drawn in the construction of the dialogue:

Seller: - Cash or card?
Customer: -
Map!
Seller: - Please apply!

And when a customer is with cash, the conversation is different:

Seller: - Cash or card?
Buyer: - Cash!
Seller: -
from you 2520 rubles.
And here the buyer hears the amount and if he doesn't like something, he can object!

Some sellers who may be "tired" of the work shift do not announce the purchase amount, but immediately say "attach the card", since the amount is already displayed on the terminal screen (why duplicate it in speech), here accordingly that's all... Most are already accustomed not to look at the screen, apply and pay, and the amount written off easily may not correspond to the cost of the price tags.

Further, in a one-on-one conversation with the cashier, I found out that the lion's share of the non-cashmen do not pay attention either to the amount on the terminal screen or to the check. Moreover, they do not even wait for the check - this is due to the fact that payment is much faster than with cash - the cashier does not need to count the money. The client has paid and is not worth it, does not wait for change, the terminal said "Approved", the person turned around and left.
Thus, non-cash - gives less problems to the cashier with returns and less trouble for the store administrator.

Of course, you can also take the side of the store. Sellers may not have time to re-stick price tags everywhere. In large supermarkets, new prices come from the central office at any time and for any number of stock items. But, the cashier should always announce the purchase amount out loud !!!

P.S.

A friend of mine in a grocery store had the following: the purchase amount was 70 rubles, they debited 700 rubles from the card. But, this happens in stores where the terminals are not connected to a computer, i.e. the seller manually enters the amount at the terminal. In the case of a friend, an employee accidentally poked an extra zero with his finger :-)))

Thank you for your attention! Be attentive and good luck with everything!
