"Wow, something beautiful is coming soon!", - I said to my wife when I saw the configuration of a dug trench under the foundation on a neighboring site:
Let's go, I say, let's meet new neighbors. Since then, since 2017, we have been communicating with a young couple who come on short visits to control the construction. The neighbor's name is Aleksey, but for some reason his wife calls him Lyonya, well, we did not complicate communication, also Lyonya, Lyonka, etc.
This amazing "house" is being built over a fence, we have already made very good friends with the owner, moreover, he is already familiar with almost all the teams that built this house. It's even hard to count them offhand, but about six or seven was for sure.
This house:
Why are there so many brigades?
The fact is that Lyosha is heavy in communication and plus - not every builder undertakes to make curvilinear elements, this is painstaking work - each brick must be scrupulously laid using only a level and a plumb line, without lace guides and woods.
This house has 3 pediments, one semicircular on the facade (pictured above) and two triangular on either side. The next photo shows a semicircular bay window-balcony, on which two teams have already changed:
Once, I asked a neighbor: "Lyonya, why did you rent this house of 270 sq.m.? Why are these arches, semicircular crap in the form of a bay window and other show off? "
Listen, He speaks, this is our first house and my wife really wanted a luxurious house, chose a project and we started construction. But, I could not even imagine that such a house only at the stage of the second floor would pull 2.5 million rubles out of my pocket. It is a pity that at one time I did not consult with people.
And in fact, without experience in construction, it is very difficult to objectively understand: "which is better", "how much" "as practical", etc. In addition, many builders strive for an inexperienced person to "a little deeper" climb into pocket.
The topic of this article is about the owner's headache in the process of building a house, more precisely about round, semicircular, triangular and other non-rectangular construction elements that knock out common standards. They may look pretty, but building, roughing and finishing is time consuming and a lot of nerves / forces not only for the builders, but in the future this headache remains for the owner until he completes everything under key.
Until now, the neighbor spits on all these curly elements, and he only makes the roof, then also the windows and decoration.
I will briefly explain everything point by point ...
1. Foundation
How to correctly mark up and dig a semicircular foundation? The task is not easy and it was done, so to speak, "in a collective farm":
Of course, the builders asked for additional money for the semicircle, because there is much more work with measurements and constant control of the radius of curvature. The same thing happened with a brick plinth, they took not 8 rubles per brick, but 16 rubles:
But, this is the lesser of evils, after all, masonry and window openings ...
2. Masonry, window lintels, windows
Laying began, the first team evaporated on the 3rd day and did not pick up the phone anymore, perhaps they made a cheap price when the price was announced, and then they realized... that the brick needs to be filed at an angle.
The house was soaked in the pouring rains, the next brigade took over in a week. Further, according to the plan - jumpers over the windows. They bent corner 10 - a semicircle was needed :-))) and even the desired radius... And so 3 pieces for 3 windows.
We won the corner, then the question arises with the windows. Lyonya did not yet know that radial windows are a headache despite the fact that they are not made everywhere. After all, what is a curved glass unit and a profile? Here it is:
The price of such an instance is at least 4 times higher than an ordinary window of this size. Also try to find where they will do it, and where they will do it - you need to order the usual windows in the kit, and they will not cost the fact that they are cheaper than elsewhere :-(
3. Plaster
How to plaster a semicircle? If you are familiar with these works, then you know that it is very difficult to make a perfectly curved element. This is similar to how to display interior monolithic staircases from below.
For example:
As for the arched vaults, they are also affordable. There are internal arches that are placed on plywood circles. And there are also external radii, the cost of which is several times higher than the cost of the work of internal vaults. There are no templates, each brick is filed on both sides and placed under the level. The bricklayer constantly measures the radius of curvature several times. The turnkey semicircular pediment came out in 46 thousand. rub. Why is it needed, you ask? - I do not know...
As a result, good money comes in for the work:
- for the arches - you need to listen;
- washed down the bricks - throw another three points on each arch;
- bay window - get another 20 thousand out of your pockets;
- a semicircle on the roof - here's an additional thirty for you;
- bend the corner - here's another five, tip... etc.
From the author
There are a lot of similar construction projects, even if we take only our Rostov region. And even more - frozen such structures... It's good that my neighbor has enough money to start a house under the roof. But, there are people who want to show off in front of their friends. At first, they will swing on a grand scale, and on the floor slabs (figuratively) the budget ends, so long-term construction for you. Further credits, loans, pledges and hello "debt hole", you leave "without pants" and hang a banner "Urgently selling, owner"!
Nevertheless, if in fact, then each figured element costs money. Each pediment, bay window, concavity, convexity is additional highly paid work of professionals. Each departure from the flat plane and abutment results in good costs at EVERY stage.
As for the finishing of arches, there is an overpayment on arched windows, but there is a lot of finishing fuss with a bay window in the form of a semicircle: how to putty? How to bend ceiling and floor skirting boards? How to cut out window sills? I don't want to do it like a collective farm... So far, some questions remain ...
P.S.
If there is a desire for a "figured" house - everything is in your hands, but the main thing is that there is also an opportunity! This article was written not in order not to do this, but in order to objectively pre-understand where they can leave fly away the customer's money when choosing one or another option.
After all, pointing the finger at a beautiful project is one thing, but implementing and bringing to mind is no less important. There is a certain amount behind every pleasure!
Thanks! Good luck with your construction and repair!
