Alpine slide and rockery

Most often, stones on the sites are used for the construction of alpine slides. In order for this structure to have a more natural appearance, you need to think over its plant composition in advance. The main principle of building an alpine slide is the creation of tiers. Plants for the upper floors should be unpretentious. Succulents have proven themselves well in this: young, sedum, saxifrage. Sedges and irises will look good in such a composition, but they need to be planted at the foot. Lovers of variegated colors can choose several bright plants for each tier. They can be seated chaotically or groups can be selected according to colors, making several multi-colored accents.

If the area of the site permits, then you can combine stone slides with juniper plantings. When planning such an art object, one must take into account that over time it will grow and it will need space. Juniper will look better with large boulders stacked in asymmetrical structures. Herbaceous perennials will complement the composition. For this, lavender, veronica, loosestrife, loosestrife are suitable. They are used in single landings, and are also asymmetrically arranged with each other. The soil between the stones is planted with low-growing or creeping plants.

For a rock garden, it is better to select homogeneous stones of different sizes and shapes. Before laying stones, the soil must be treated with herbicides, and a drainage layer must be laid at the base of the hill.

If you don't have enough time to take care of flowers, you can decorate your site by creating a rockery on it. Its features are that the composition is compiled with a minimum of plants. Unlike the alpine slide, to which the tiers give verticality, the shape of the rockery is more flattened. It is based on large and small stones, which are placed randomly - so they will more resemble a natural landscape. Plants are distributed in single groups, trying to avoid variegation and abundance of greenery so that the stones remain in the center of the composition.

Paths and ponds

There are several other ways you can use rocks and boulders on the site to give it an unusual look.

A path made of stones will look good, but a dry stream will become a more interesting decoration. It can be used as a separate decorative element or combined with different plants. In areas with high soil moisture, it can act as a drainage. To do this, you need to dig a moat that imitates a stream, fill it with pebbles, and fix the banks with cobblestones and boulders.

Such a stream should be placed in the direction of the slope of the site so that, if necessary, water can flow down it. With a steep slope, rapids and waterfalls can be built in the channel. To do this, the bottom of the ditch must be made stepped, laying out the steps with flat large stones. If it is possible to organize an artificial water supply, then you can arrange a waterfall. To do this, you need to expand the base of the stream by arranging a small pond in it. From the side of the water supply on the banks of such a reservoir, compositions of different levels are made of stones. If water is supplied from several branches, then a multi-jet cascade will result. The banks of such a reservoir are decorated with hygrophyte plants. For a more natural look, you can plant reeds, cattails or sedges in combination with Iranian iris.

Fences and curbs

A regular flower bed with a stone border will look more well-groomed. Recently, gabions have become popular: frames of various types are made from wire mesh and filled with pebbles. Depending on the shape, such structures can be used as a curb or a fence. They can become the basis for flowerpots or country furniture.

Small pebbles can be used in flower beds as mulch.
