The trunk circle is a small patch of soil around the tree that helps the roots the required amount of oxygen, useful trace elements and water, and can also be used for garden decoration.

- tree age up to 3 years - 1.5-2 m;
- more than 6-7 years - 3-3.5 m.
With the arrival of autumn, the area around the trunk must be well dug, immersing the shovel 6-10 cm in the ground so as not to chop the roots. Then loosen a little, breaking up large lumps and leveling with a rake.
For the first 5 years after planting the seedling, the soil near the trunk should be open, so you cannot plant plants on it, creating flower beds and flower beds.
To preserve moisture, it is necessary to loosen the soil in spring and summer and remove weeds (work 3-4 times per season, and in the absence of precipitation - 5-6).
Some gardeners create beautiful flower beds by planting various types of plants near mature trees. Stages of creating a flower garden:
- Dig up the soil around the trunk, remove weeds and remove all debris.
- Dig the required number of holes and place pieces of agrofibre on the bottom, which will prevent the intertwining of plant and tree roots.
- Pour a layer of sand, expanded clay or pebbles on top to create a drainage system.
- Fill the holes ½ with fertile soil and install plant seedlings in them so that the root shoot is 2-3 cm above the ground.
- Tamp the soil and water.
In the peri-stem circle, various herbaceous plants can be sown, such as bent grass, ivy, periwinkle, horny goat weed, pachisandra, etc. When they grow up to 10 cm, carefully mow and leave on the site, because in the process of natural decomposition, such herbs will fill the soil with useful microelements.
Mulching of near-stem circles
Mulching is one of the ways to refine the trunks. This design method will help not only to retain moisture in the soil, but also to protect the bark of trees from pests. Also, mulch protects the root system from freezing and improves the composition of the soil, so even young tree seedlings can be covered with it.
Mulching steps:
- Outline a circle with a diameter of 1-3 m, depending on the thickness of the trunk and the age of the tree.
- Remove the sod layer, place a low fence around the circle and cover the circle with agrofibre.
- Top with mulch made of dry sawdust, pine or spruce needles, cedar cones or straw.
