Those who were born, grew up, lived and worked in the USSR remember the unusual triangular-shaped cardboard milk bags. The decoration was also memorable - the colors were somewhat reminiscent of the flag of modern Russia, but mosaic. The packaging itself was somewhat non-standard, but it had a lot of useful characteristics - ease of storage, transportation and disposal, environmental friendliness, ergonomics.
There was also a drawback - not very good gluing of seams. Often these amazing triangles began to leak around the corners. By the way, modern plastic milk bags also tend to leak in places where seams are formed.
How did the milk carton triangles come about?
Packages had their own secret of origin, into which no one was particularly privy. Although in the domestic newspapers from time to time published small notes. They said that the shape of the container is "Parisian", because in Western countries the dairy product was sold in rectangular packages. The pyramidal packaging really came from abroad.
Some of the rumors that circulate around this invention have a mystical, slightly mysterious direction. According to legend, the man who came up with just such a container for milk, at one time read an article about the pyramids in one of the French magazines. It was said there that inside the pyramidal structure, no matter what it was built of, there is a magical, mysterious energy.
It was believed that if you put a body inside the pyramid, then it will remain forever young, and the mummies will live for many millennia. So the inventor thought, why not store food in such a pyramidal container, where they will retain all their useful qualities and give the consumer youth.
The shape is called "tetrahedron". It was adopted by the Swedish inventor Eric Wallenberg and offered to milk traders as a unique container in which the product will turn sour much later. It was in this country in 1944 that they began to produce triangular cardboard bags. Gradually, they began to be used by the French as well. The Tetra Classic form has been patented by the trading company AB Tetra Pak.

In European countries, this packaging began to be produced in large quantities from the fifty-second year, and from the fifty-ninth it began to be made in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Two important facts were quickly discovered. First, the container does not extend the shelf life of milk, and it is stored in it in the same way as in any other. Second, it is not very convenient to transport triangular pyramids in rectangular containers. This requires special barrels, round, or boxes in the form of hexagons.
The most interesting thing is that the Swedes stopped producing these tetrahedrons for milk as soon as production was launched on the territory of the Soviet Union. They turned out to be cunning - they just sold us what they didn't need. One can only assume that they were well paid for it.

In the USSR, milk was sold in triangular containers until the mid-eighties. Our Swedish production lines worked rather poorly - the edges of the bags were not very tightly glued, which led to a large amount of milk flowing out. And yet, today these three-color bags are remembered with warm sadness and nostalgia. The milk that was poured into them, and then went to store counters, was very tasty and real.
