How to grow a phalaenopsis shoot
We cultivate a peduncle of an orchid, which does not start new shoots for a long time, but only intensively increases the volume of green mass.
Plant condition assessment
It is necessary to inspect the root system of the orchid for the presence of fungal diseases and pests. Feel the leaves (they should be tight and green with no signs of yellowness).
Providing light mode for 12 hours
The plant must be placed in a well-lit place (on the east or south-east side), making sure that it does not fall on direct sunlight, which can cause burns.
In hot summer, cover the flower from the sun with foil. When the temperature is lowered, move the orchid to a darker place. Once in a stressful situation, the dormant plant will begin to activate and grow.
Changing the watering regime
Irrigation should be stopped within 10 days, and then the flower pot should be immersed in warm, settled water so that the roots are saturated with moisture. Then you need to drain the rest of the liquid and put the orchid in its original place. After that, watering is carried out only when condensation disappears on the walls of the pot.
It is best to follow the procedure with a watering can with a fine spray. This will help moisturize both the aboveground and underground parts of the plant. Sometimes flower watering is carried out with a break of 2-3 weeks.
Providing a comfortable temperature
During the daytime, the room temperature should be at least + 20… + 22ºC, and at night - + 16… + 18ºC. If the room is hot, the flower will begin to intensively build up green mass, retarding the development of peduncles. To stimulate the formation of arrows, it is necessary to lower the temperature by 2-3ºC at night.
Plant nutrition and care
If the flower was bought in a store, do not immediately transplant it into a new flowerpot. The main thing is that there is no foam at the bottom of the pot, which is placed in for transporting plants and retaining moisture in the soil.
If it is available, the flower must be immediately transplanted into a new container with a special drainage system made of expanded clay and a substrate prepared from sawdust, tree bark, ash, sphagnum moss and branches. To disinfect wood components, they should be boiled for 10 minutes and then dried well.
Top dressing is applied according to the following schedule:
- in winter - once every 30 days;
- in the summer - 2 times a month.
As fertilizers, complex mineral potash-phosphorus compounds are used that contribute to the development of the peduncle. After the appearance of a new shoot and during the formation of buds, feeding should be stopped, since they inhibit this process.
Shoot formation process
The orchid peduncle grows for about 50-70 days (hybrid varieties 90-100 days). This process begins with the appearance of an arrow and ends with an adult shoot with developing buds.
In a warm room with a high level of humidity and a sufficient amount of light, the growth period of the peduncle can be reduced several times.
How to start the growth of a peduncle up
During growth, the shoot can bend down or curl into a bagel. Often the orchid itself directs the peduncle in the right direction, but if this does not happen, it is necessary to make a support for it.
The easiest way is to direct the growth of a young arrow, which has reached a length of 16-18 cm, has not yet had time to get stronger and will not be able to break when it is straightened. To do this, you need to install a thin wooden stick next to the main stem of the plant, straighten the shoot and carefully tie it to the support. There are special clothespins for flowers that will allow you to firmly fix the arrow without causing mechanical damage to it.
If it is not possible to install a support, you can change the angle of incidence of light so that the peduncle begins to stretch upward towards the sun. Thus, it will gradually begin to level out and grow in the desired direction.
