The main stages of planting potatoes according to the method of Galina Kizima

Planting potatoes according to the Kizima method includes the following steps:

  • Seed selection. It is recommended to use medium sized tubers for planting. Too large should be cut in half. The cut must be treated with wood ash.
  • Soaking pre-washed potatoes in a bowl of warm water.
  • Adding a potassium permanganate solution to a bowl of potatoes. This will subsequently protect the seed from the effects of various pests.
  • Rinsing of seed with running water. The potatoes laid out in 1 row must be kept in the sun for 15-20 days. Thanks to this procedure, solanine is produced under the skin of the tubers, which protects them from damage by various diseases and pests.

  • Germination. In order for a large number of eyes to form on the tubers, you need to place them in layers in a box. Each row must be covered with paper. The recommended residence time of tubers in the box is 3 weeks.
  • Planting ready-made seed material. According to the method, the tubers are placed on a pre-prepared compost or straw deck. The gaps between them must be at least 20 cm.
  • Spring frost protection. An excellent material that protects potatoes from sudden changes in temperature is spunbond. It must be laid on top of a layer of newspapers.
  • Hilling. This procedure is carried out using weeds or compost. Tubers should not be allowed to be on the surface, since solanine can begin to be produced in them under the influence of the sun.
  • Harvesting. Different types of tubers have their own ripening periods. Early varieties can be harvested 50-60 days after planting. Late varieties need 80-90 days to ripen. An outward sign that the tubers are ripe is the presence of wilted flowers on the bush.

  • Low labor costs for growing. It is not necessary to remove weeds, since their roots die off under a thick layer of compost. To harvest, you just need to raise the hay floor.
  • The possibility of using compost as soil fertilizer. It is recommended to leave it on the site until spring.
