Good afternoon, my reader. You can often find loggias and balconies lined with flower pots with decorative, and sometimes agricultural plants. Many lovers of healthy food have appreciated the idea of self-feeding the table with homemade onions, herbs and even small tomatoes. But such apartment gardeners have their own headache. This is especially typical for busy people who are absent from bushes with their favorite flora for a long time.

This problem is watering, which is required by different plants in different proportions, albeit with strict regularity that cannot be violated. There is, of course, a way out - to equip your plants with an automatic watering system. We will talk about how to do this!
Typically, capillary irrigation systems are installed for indoor plants. They have their advantages as they consume little water and maintain a constant soil moisture. At the same time, such a system is capable of working for several days in a row, which will provide you with a short vacation with your family outside the city without fear for the safety of your seedlings.
In-store watering systems
The easiest way is to buy a ready-made irrigation system by spending a certain amount in a specialized store. Such systems are a mixture of plastic tubes equipped with capillaries, a low-power pump and a filter for water purification. More expensive devices are equipped with an electronic timer (often built into the power supply), which can be programmed for autonomous operation.
For all its convenience, electrical devices turn into a heap of unnecessary junk in the event of a power outage, which can always occur at the most inopportune moment.
Of course, there is an alternative on the market - irrigation systems with ceramic drippers. Water seeps through the porous filter and drips into the pot by gravity without any wires. However, this also has its drawback - the filter is very often clogged and requires replacement or cleaning.
Do-it-yourself autowatering system?
Yes, this is a budget option, but if you have arms that do not grow from the hip joint, it gives a head start to paid counterparts. In general, there are many different designs, we will consider only a couple - for short-term autonomous irrigation and long-term reliable irrigation.
The first option will require a medical dropper. Yes, although this is a budget option, you will have to fork out a little. In any case, a dropper in a pharmacy is much cheaper than an autowatering system, and no one bothers to take a device already used for its intended purpose.
Actually, you don't need to invent anything here either. Fill a medicine bag or saline bottle with water and direct the needle towards the plant stem. Remember to raise your water container higher.
The second option does not require any expenses at all. We'll need a plastic bottle and cord. The latter is preferably made of synthetic material. So, we make a hole in the bottle cap with an awl or nail and carefully insert the cord into it. Next, we place one end of the cord in a flower pot, and leave the other in a bottle 15-20 cm. Finally, it remains to add water, which will slowly seep into the pot, using the cord as a "road".
