Good afternoon, my reader. All experienced gardeners know that without good feeding there will be no bountiful harvest. And care does not need to be stopped after the harvest. On the contrary, it is necessary to feed the depleted soil.

How to prepare strawberries for wintering
In addition to replanting strawberries in a new place in the fall, wintering must be taken care of. Although strawberries tolerate frost well in snowy winters, they cannot be left without shelter.
You can use peat and straw to insulate a garden bed with transplanted strawberries. They work both as insulation and as fertilizer after decomposition.
What fertilizers are suitable for strawberries
There are three main groups of nutrient fertilizers:
- organic;
- mineral;
- combined (a mixture of organic and mineral).
Without them, it is impossible to achieve a good harvest of fruit crops, especially strawberries. In the fall, after transplanting, it needs feeding more than ever.
Let us examine these fertilizer groups carefully.
Autumn organic fertilizers
Organics are suitable for all plants, especially for berry crops. The most nutritious ones are:
- rotten manure - neutralizes weed seeds in the soil;
- humus or humus;
- wood ash;
- infusion of chicken droppings.
They can be used in combination with each other. Also, in addition to feeding strawberries, these fertilizers will serve as a shelter from the cold. You do not need to bring them in immediately after transplanting, wait for the rooting of young bushes.
Mineral dressing
Some gardeners believe that the plant does not need minerals in the fall after fruiting, but they are wrong. If for some reason organic fertilizers do not suit you (for example, a bad smell), you can always replace them with mineral fertilizers. You can add them directly to the soil into which you transplant the strawberries. You can prepare the nutrient solution yourself or buy it ready-made.
For home cooking you will need:
- 10 liters of clean water;
- 1 glass of wood ash;
- 2 tbsp. spoons of nitrophosphates;
- 25 g of potassium fertilizer.
Water each strawberry bush separately with this solution.
Combined feeding in autumn
Even if you have not transplanted the strawberries to a new location, you cannot leave them without nutritional supplements. After harvest, remove any dry leaves, excess shoots and whiskers. Experienced gardeners recommend feeding non-transplanted bushes with combined fertilizers:
- mullein tincture and manure, infused for several days;
- a mixture of ash, potash and phosphorus fertilizers in equal quantities.
How to use fertilizers correctly
Do not put a lot of fertilizer, a lot does not mean good quality. If you put them in excess, then the berries will have a weak and watery taste. Follow these guidelines for a bountiful and tasty harvest:
- It is best to use complex fertilizers to nourish the soil and plants.
- Do not apply nitrogen fertilizers in the fall, they are only appropriate in the spring to stimulate growth.
- Liquid top dressing should be applied before subzero temperatures.
- Mineral fertilizers are used twice - the first time in the soil before planting, the second time after the snow has left.
- Prepare mixed fertilizers and apply immediately.
- Do not fertilize during flowering and fruit formation, this will not bring a positive effect.
