Good afternoon, my reader. Mangoes, like other tropical plants that are rare in the harsh climate, have begun to appear more and more in our homes. The domestic flower market offers a wide variety of exotic crops. However, this is clearly not enough for avid flower growers: they definitely want to grow some kind of outlandish fruit from a cuttings or seeds.

General information about the plant

An evergreen crop native to the Asian humid tropics, it prefers a monsoon climate. The plant feels comfortable in hot weather with moderate humidity. Mango is cultivated in many countries of the world with suitable natural conditions.

The Russian climate is not suitable for exotic culture. However, you can grow a decorative mango tree at home. It may even bloom, but it is unlikely to bear fruit. But even this result can be considered a significant progress.

Getting ready to plant a mango

A tropical plant with sweet, fragrant fruits of bright red color, it is perfectly propagated by seeds and grafts. Therefore, for growing indoors, you will need a mature, undamaged fruit that can give offspring.

In addition, it is important to prepare a small pot with a drainage system and fertile soil. A soil mixture of humus, low-lying peat, gravel, vermiculite is a good option.

Step-by-step planting process

First, you need to remove the bone from a ripe mango fruit. Sometimes in ripe fruits, it opens up, i.e. almost ready to plant. If the bone does not burst, then it will have to be cut with a sharp knife. This will facilitate the germination process.

Seeds from unripe fruits are best left to ripen. To do this, they are left in a warm place, wrapped in a damp cloth. For 2-3 weeks, the napkin is moistened and the process is monitored so as not to miss the moment when the seed bursts.

When the bone is ready for planting in the ground, it is placed in a pot to a depth of 3 cm with the sharp tip down. In this case, a quarter of the seed should remain above the ground. The potting mix should be dampened with warm water.

To speed up the rooting process, you need to build a mini greenhouse. To do this, you can use a transparent glass (plastic) container, which is covered with a pot of seed.

Then the planting container with the future tree is placed in a well-lit and warm place. While waiting for seedlings, the mini-greenhouse should be periodically ventilated. Under favorable conditions, the first shoots appear in about 3-4 weeks.

To obtain a positive result, it is important to maintain warmth (at least 22-25 ° C above zero) and moderate soil moisture. After the first 3-4 leaves appear on the seedling, it can be transplanted into a larger container filled with light, fertile soil.

Important! The culture prefers a warm environment with good diffused lighting and moderate humidity. Deviations from the norm threaten the death of the plant.

Growing a mango tree is not so much difficult as it is fun. You should not expect a harvest of exotic fruits from him. Fragrant paniculate inflorescences of a tropical plant will be a worthy reward for your efforts.
