Good afternoon, my reader. Roses are loved by many gardeners for their beauty, aroma and variety of species. Everyone has their own favorite type of flower that they want to spread throughout the garden. For this, the method of autumn propagation by cuttings is suitable.

Advantages and time of grafting

Roses grown from cuttings:

  • do not give wild roots and overgrowth of them. This simplifies the maintenance of the rose garden;
  • resistant to cold (when the aboveground part freezes, the bush will recover from dormant buds);
  • unpretentiousness (the stalk can be taken from your favorite rose and even from a store bouquet).
Rose cuttings are harvested during the autumn pruning of bushes, around late October - early November.

Rose varieties suitable for grafting:

  1. Polyanthus and miniature (all).
  2. Climbing and semi-climbing.
  3. Hybrid tea.
  4. Excelsa.
  5. Flammentanz.
  6. Iceberg.
  7. Rosalind.

It is not recommended to expose park, as well as remontant varieties by cuttings - it is very troublesome.

Blank

For grafting, the following steps are taken:

  • choose shoots. Their thickness must be at least 4 mm;
  • cut them into pieces (3-4 buds).

The processing tool must have a sharp cutting edge. The blade is treated with alcohol and scalded with boiling water.

The upper cut is made flat, the lower cut obliquely.

The top is cut off 2-3 cm from the kidney, the bottom is immediately below the kidney.

If rooting is supposed immediately, then all the leaves are not cut off, removing only the lower ones.

Landing

The stalk is placed in a permanent place. Disembarkation rules:

  • process the cuttings with a root former;
  • prepare a hole up to 30 cm deep;
  • put grass in the hole, filling 2/3, sprinkle with compost;
  • place the stalk in the hole at an angle of 45 degrees, leaving 1-2 buds on the surface;
  • spill with water.

Cuttings in the apartment

Cutting is done after the first cold weather:

  • prepare cuttings 20 cm high, with 2-3 mature buds;
  • dip the tops of the shoots in melted wax, then in cold water - this will help prevent the rapid development of buds;
  • fill a plastic container with expanded clay and special soil for roses;
  • moisten the soil, dip the bottom of the cuttings in water, then in "Kornevin" (preparation);
  • place the stalk in the hole. Landings can be placed close to each other (30 pieces are placed in a bucket with a diameter of 40 cm);
  • wrap the container in a plastic bag, securing the top with a clothespin or rope. You can use glass containers for covering;
  • wrap the bucket with a blanket and put it on a warm dry balcony (you cannot put a pot on cement);

With severe night frosts, cuttings are brought into the house.

This method is also suitable for propagating roses from a beautiful store bouquet.

Winter storage

Cuttings can be stored throughout the winter in order to plant them on the site in the spring. For this:

  • dig a hole 15-20 cm deep on the site;
  • cover with a cloth;
  • remove all leaves from the shoots, lay the cuttings, keeping an equal distance;
  • cover with a cloth, sprinkle with earth.
After the snow melts, the cuttings are dug up and examined - the shoots suitable for planting release callus - a dense growth with roots. Shoots must be planted immediately. If planting is delayed, the cuttings are placed in water.
