Specificity of dressings
Peonies are unpretentious flowers that can grow in one place for a long time and bloom profusely. However, the bushes require careful care, and starting from 3 years of development, they need not only regular watering and loosening of the soil, but also top dressing. Fertilization is divided into 3 stages:
- The first time peonies are fed in early spring, when the snow melts. At this stage, the soil is fertilized with preparations based on potassium and nitrogen, guided by the calculation of 10-20 g of the first substance per bush and 10-15 g of the second.
- The next top dressing is prescribed at the time of bud formation and involves the use of 3 minerals: phosphorus (15-20 g), nitrogen (10-15 g) and potassium (10-15 g).
- The last cycle is carried out after 7-15 days, when the peonies begin to lay buds. The complex fertilizer must contain potassium and phosphorus.
Regardless of the composition chosen, it is important to monitor its dosage. An overabundance of individual components, especially nitrogen-containing ones, can lead to an increased set of green mass and lack of flowering.
As a mineral fertilizer for peonies, you can use the drug "Kemira-Universal". It is consumed 3 times per season, pouring a handful of mixture under each plant. The repeated procedure involves the use of Kemira-Kombi. The drug is distinguished by its rapid dissolution in liquid and is well absorbed by the root system of flowers.
The popular composition is "Baikal EM1". It is a microbiological agent created using EM technology. The fertilizer contains biologically active organisms that improve the composition of the substrate and increase its fertility. "Baikal EM1" is used in autumn together with compost and is suitable for mulching adult plants. The thickness of the mulch layer should be 7-10 cm.
Foliar dressing
In order for peonies to bloom all season, young and adult specimens must be fed once a month using foliar processing. The specificity of feeding is spraying or watering from a special watering can with a fine mesh plug of the aboveground parts using mineral solutions. Quite good results are provided by "Ideal". The optimal dosage is indicated in the instructions for use of the product.
To keep the composition longer and better on the surface of the foliage, it can be mixed with laundry soap in the amount of 1 tbsp. l. for 10 liters of liquid.
Foliar processing is carried out according to a simple scheme:
- The first time peonies are fertilized after the formation of green shoots with a solution of urea (50 g of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water).
- The second make-up involves the addition of micronutrient fertilizers in tablet form to the solution - 1 tablet per bucket of fertilizing.
- The third feeding involves watering with a solution of micronutrient fertilizers - 2 tablets per 10 liters of water.
Timely and correct feeding of peonies contributes to their abundant flowering.
