Seed preparation

Before sowing, the seeds must be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for a period of no more than half an hour and then rinsed with cold water. Such measures are necessary to disinfect seeds. The next stage is the germination of seeds, for this you need to wrap them in a damp cloth and close them with a plastic bag, this will create a greenhouse effect and accelerate seed germination.

The most favorable period for sowing peppers is considered to be the 3rd decade of February - 1st decade of March.

What is the best way to grow pepper seedlings

Pepper seedlings grow well both in single pots and in large boxes. The choice of capacity depends on the area allocated for growing future peppers and the expected volume of plants.

The convenience of pots is that each seedling will grow in a separate container and the roots will not be damaged when planted on a garden bed.

Types of pots:

  • plastic - lightweight and easy to use, but can crack if dropped;
  • clay - from natural raw materials, plants in such containers are comfortable, but the roots can grow into the walls of the pot;
  • peat - from natural raw materials, planting on the ridge is done directly in pots, but it is difficult to preserve them before transplanting, because peat softens from moisture;
  • made of paper, polyethylene - they are disposable, in such containers the roots of peppers practically do not breathe.
The small size of the pots allows you to move the seedlings, if necessary, so that the plants do not shade each other and warm up evenly.

Boxes are best if you need to grow a lot of seedlings.

Sprouted seeds are planted in containers with soil, sprinkled, it is recommended to cover the planting with film or glass to accelerate the emergence of seedlings.

Sprouted seeds are sown to a depth of 2 cm, the gap between future seedlings is about 3 cm. Cover the finished plantings with a film, put on a window from the sunny side, if this is not possible, then in a warm enough place. Watering is carried out every 2 days. With the emergence of seedlings, the film is removed, and the containers with the seedlings are rearranged to a permanent place with good lighting at a constant temperature.

Seedling care

In the first 3 days, it is recommended not to water the seedlings, but to lightly moisten them using a spray bottle. After three days, you need to make a balanced watering using warm water. Frequent watering causes various diseases, rare watering leads to wilting or death of the plant.

The room where the seedlings are grown must be ventilated, but without drafts. The lack of light rays and warm air can be compensated for by installing a fluorescent lamp; the seedlings should be protected from heating batteries and radiators with foil, cardboard or plywood. As the seedlings grow, it is recommended to feed it with nutrients.
