Cabbage appearance
The butterfly has delicate white wings. She is medium in size. Appears in warm weather. Usually it is either late spring or summer. Another difference is the dark dot on the upper wing. By these signs, the pest is very easy to calculate in the garden. Butterflies feed on cabbage juice. They are attracted by the aroma of fresh and juicy cabbage leaves.
Appears in early, mid and late summer. These three periods are the most favorable for cabbage. After all, dry warm weather is what you need! In the heat and rain, the butterfly dies.
What harm is done to the crop
The main and first sign of a pest is the appearance of small holes on the leaves.
Cabbage plants live no more than 20 days. During this time, they manage to lay their eggs on the inside of the leaf. The larvae hatch and grow very quickly. They reach 3-4 cm. Then all the juicy leaves and pulp are eaten. Only the cabbage veins remain. This process takes place the next year as well, as the larvae turn into pupae. Pupae tolerate winter well and, with the appearance of warm weather, come to life and turn into butterflies, which lay eggs again. By eating cabbage, the larvae infect it with bacteria and viruses. Therefore, the pump immediately deteriorates and decays. Meanwhile, the caterpillars are crawling onto a nearby bush. Thus, you can lose the entire crop.
That is why they try to destroy butterflies as soon as they notice.
Getting rid of cabbage quickly
When using folk remedies, chemicals are not involved. Therefore, they do not harm the crop and soil, easily decompose, and sometimes serve as fertilizer.
1. Laundry soap + ash
Dissolve 100 g of grated soap in 5 liters of warm water. Add half a glass of ash. Mix well and leave to infuse for about an hour. In the morning, use a spray bottle to spray cabbage leaves on both sides. Processing takes place once every 3-4 days for 2 weeks.
2. Sagebrush
Juicy wormwood branches are slightly dried in the sun and sent to a bucket of water. Boil for 10 minutes. Cool and water the cabbage every 3-4 days up to 2 weeks.
3. Mustard
Pour 100 g of powder into a bucket of hot water. Cool down. Dilute the infusion 1 to 1 with water. Spray once every 3 days for two weeks.
4. Vinegar
Dilute 3 tbsp in a bucket. l. any vinegar, 2 tbsp. l. salt and 1 tbsp. l. ground black pepper. Water every other day for 2-3 weeks.
