In the manuals for the car, especially in the old ones, you can see the advice that it is strongly recommended to depress the clutch pedal when turning on the starter. There really is a certain sense in such an action, but it is worth noting right away that in the current realities from this advice there will be much more harm than good.
Where did the advice come from?
Mainly in the cold season in the gearbox housing before starting the engine, the transmission temperature has a low temperature. This means that the rotation of the gears of the manual transmission and the rotation of the shafts will be significantly hampered. As a result, the load on the starter increases significantly (on older cars, it usually has little power). The amount of energy consumed by the car from the battery is also increasing. In addition, a cold engine could not start on the first try due to problems with the carburetor choke.
To avoid all of this (as well as some of the smaller problems), old manuals recommended that clutch squeeze should be performed.
How are things now
For most modern cars, this advice is, at best, irrelevant, and at worst, harmful. This is because a lot has changed in the car today. First of all, high-quality synthetic oils began to be used, the viscosity of which weakly depends on temperature. The power of the starters has also increased significantly, and the batteries have become better able to tolerate starter modes. Finally, the power of car generators is no longer limited to technology.

Nowadays, squeezing the clutch during starting is most often harmful. This is because when the clutch is squeezed out, the crankshaft of the car begins to experience heavy loads, including those for which it is not designed. This, in turn, significantly accelerates the wear of parts, and also increases the abnormal play of the crankshaft. Ultimately, all this is fraught with engine failure.
