5 most common mistakes owners make when working with a grinder.

The best tool for cutting metal structures of various types and profiles is the grinder. A fairly simple and at the same time very effective tool today is subordinate to many owners. Despite this, as sad practice shows, citizens make a fairly large number of mistakes when working with a grinder. Some of them are fraught with injury and destruction of the instrument.

1. Installing an oversized disk

It is impossible to install a larger disc on the grinder, if only because for this you have to remove the protective cover, making the tool frankly unsafe for the operator himself. In addition, the size of the disc must be compatible with the number of revolutions performed. Each disc and instrument has its own contract values. At best, incompatibility results in a loss of performance. In the worst case, the disc can simply burst and injure the operator (this is especially dangerous when the protective cover is removed).

2. Using non-native disks

For a grinder, it is strongly recommended to purchase only "native" discs that are created by the manufacturer of a particular tool. Moreover, you shouldn't skimp on equipment and buy cheap disks from little-known manufacturers. This is important if later you do not want the surgeon to hatch metal fragments from the hands and body.

3. Working without protective cover

This issue has already been indirectly mentioned in the first paragraph, however, special attention should be paid to it. In no case should you work with a grinder that does not (for some reason) have a protective casing. If the disc bursts during operation, it will fly into fragments in all directions. Actually, it is for this that a casing is installed on the tool, which will have to take the brunt of the blow in case of trouble.

Important: in addition, when working with the grinder, it is strongly recommended to use the provided personal protective equipment - glasses or a mask, as well as headphones. Recall that the noise of the grinder during operation is 90-100 dB. The permissible noise level when operating a power tool is 80 dB.

4. Incorrect cutting direction and loose fasteners

Remember that the fastening nut is responsible for the correct and high-quality fixation of the working disc. If the disc is not tightened properly, it is fraught with the risk of loosening during operation. A loose disk can simply slip off or, even worse, explode. Deviations should not exceed 3 mm inclusive! Before starting work, it is better to check the fixation quality again.

Already during operation, very often sparks begin to fly to a person. Many workers decide to turn the tool so that the sparks fly by. This is a serious violation of the rules for the operation of the tool and safety precautions. In order to protect yourself from sparks, you need not change the direction of the cut, but simply use a special robe.

Finally, you should always check that the tool cable is in good condition before starting a “full-scale” job. Very often people get injured trying to fix the cable, mistakenly believing that it has turned off. In reality, the wire just comes off. As a result, an unexpectedly working tool and an injury.
