Why did the designer add the American style to the old Stalinist kopeck piece and what happened in the end?

  • Dec 15, 2020

Designer Elena Markina designed a 45 m² kopeck piece in a Stalinist building. Customers live in the United States, and this apartment is rarely used. They tried to preserve the spirit of old Moscow in it, but at the same time introduce elements of the American style.

  • total area: 45 m²
  • Number of rooms: 2
  • House type: stalinka
  • A place: Moscow
  • Designer: Elena Markina
  • Stylist: Christina Kondratieva

The owners turned out to be brave enough, and therefore the apartment was generously filled with colors.
The standard layout was changed to design more usable space. The unnecessary corridor was removed, the bathroom was expanded, which, in turn, was combined. Opposite the entrance, a spacious storage system was arranged, donating part of the bedroom. The bedroom and living room were swapped, and the second was enlarged to accommodate a mini-dining room.

Living room

In the living room, the role of a contrasting detail was assigned to a blue sofa, which stands out noticeably surrounded by calm coffee walls.

To hide the supporting beams, false beams were added along the entire perimeter, beating them with stucco decor. In these designs, niches were also equipped for ceiling curtain rods.

Kitchen

The headset, made according to the designer's sketches, was equipped with a second upper tier for greater spaciousness. We also kept a cold niche under the window, hiding it with ventilated facades.

The customers themselves chose the color of the facades for the kitchen. This inspired the designer to further add solar colors to the decoration of the hallway.

Bedroom

The bedroom has taken on a richer blue-gray hue. Powdery details, including textiles and painting, look a slight accent against this background.

The storage function was taken over by a large vintage wardrobe owned by the customers.

Hallway

The sunny finish in the hallway sets a bright mood right from the doorway. Blue accents were added by the pouf and splashes on the floor tiles.

Bathroom

The bathroom combined marble mosaics and porcelain stoneware. For some of the walls, as in the rest of the apartment, they used bright paint.
