The lighting market has stepped up well over the past 10 years. There was even a new profession - a light designer. Why lighting has become so important and how it transforms the interior, said Pavel Shelyagin, designer and founder of Fields Furniture Store.

There must be more than one light source

Previously, only basic lighting was used, that is, one chandelier in the center of the room. The chandelier gave a flat and lifeless light, but the ideas ended there.

The chandelier now has a more interesting role to play than just lighting up a room. If you want to emphasize the interior, highlight a recreation area or a work area, then you can hang the chandelier just above it, and use functional or decorative lighting for the rest of the area. For example, overhead sconces or spotlights.

By switching the main light to a wall lamp, you can create a subdued, cozy atmosphere. Spotlights come in handy in the kitchen if you need to highlight a dining group or additionally illuminate the work surface.

Color temperature matters

This characteristic determines the shade of the emitted light, from warm with a yellow tone to cold with a blue tint. It is measured in Kelvin: warm white (up to 3300K), neutral white (up to 5000K), cold white (from 5000K).

Color temperature affects the atmosphere in the room and our mood, so you need to choose its own lighting for each room. At a color temperature of 1900-3000 K (warm light), it is better to fall asleep. At a temperature of 4000-5000 K, close to daylight, we tune in to a working rhythm.

Mirrors need lighting too

Shaving, trimming, and applying makeup all require good, even lighting, which can be achieved with a simple LED strip. A 50 mm gap is required between the mirror and the wall to accommodate the power supply. A LED strip is attached around the perimeter, preferably white.

Such LED strip can illuminate a mirror and any other surfaces.

Let's not forget about street lighting

In landscape lighting, the same principles apply as in an apartment. Do not try to illuminate the entire area with one spotlight, this will give a flat and uncomfortable picture.

It is better to use different light sources that will highlight the main areas. Additionally, you can illuminate fountains, flower arrangements, gazebos. The illuminated facade of the house also looks original.

The main thing to consider is that the luminaire must be designed for outdoor use. Then it will be protected from moisture and dust. The degree of protection is indicated by the IP marking and two numbers. Suitable for outdoor use IP65. If you are illuminating the bottom of the pool, the degree of protection should be even higher.

For lighting an area, color temperature also matters. On terraces, gazebos and patio areas, soft, diffused light in warm colors (3000K) is recommended. Do not create bright intense spots in the garden.

It is better to select lamps of the same or at least close color temperature so that everything looks consistent and whole.

The Arlight brand has released a new collection of landscape lamps with IP65 protection. They have a laconic design, they are easy to fit into any exterior. Lamps-columns can be used to illuminate flower beds and highlight paths.

The pillars of medium height (30-60 cm) will not be covered with snow and ice and they will continue to perform their function in any weather. If there is a curb or a flower garden along the path, in the summer they will create favorable artificial lighting for it.
