We make a strong thin thread from a plastic bottle, which is always useful on the farm

From a 0.5 liter bottle, you can get 4 meters of strong thin thread, which is always useful in a summer cottage. To do this, you need to make a simple device that is assembled from scrap materials. It will be a small machine for cutting plastic bottles. After collecting it, it will take no more than 30 seconds to get 4 meters of thread.

Step 1. We collect everything you need

To create a cutting device, we need:

  • Two bolts about 6 cm long. with matching nuts;
  • Two sanitary pads about 5 mm thick;
  • Two small bars about 3 cm high;
  • Blade from a stationery knife;
  • Long bolt or threaded rod. Two matching nuts.

Our mini machine will be mounted on a workbench or, as in our case, on a thick plywood sheet laid on the table.

Step 2. Fixing the blade

First of all, we need to secure the blade. To do this, we drill two bolt holes in plywood at a distance of about 4 cm. Next, put the sanitary pads and cover them with a blade. The latter should be positioned so that bolts can be inserted into the holes. After that, we install the bars and tighten the structure tightly.

The thickness of our future thread depends on the remaining distance between the table and the blade. Since the sanitary gaskets are made of rubber, we can adjust it by tightening the bolts. This is quite convenient, since the structure does not need to be disassembled.

Step 3. Installing the axis

Now we need to set the axis around which the bottle will rotate. A long bolt or a threaded rod can play its role. To do this, make another hole to the right of the two existing ones.

The axle is installed with nuts and is easily height adjustable. Depending on the size of the bottle, its location will vary. The larger the diameter, the further from the blade it will be.

That's all, our design is ready. If necessary, it can always be quickly disassembled and put away for storage.

Now, to obtain a thread, it is enough to cut off the bottom of the bottle and make a small incision on the wall, slightly going up. Next, we put the container on the axis, insert the blade into the cut and slowly pull the end. After 30 seconds, we will get about four meters of strong thin thread, which will always come in handy in a summer cottage.

Step 4. Checking the thread for strength

To test the strength of the thread, I took a length of about a meter and hung a full bucket of water on it. The product easily withstood a load of 10 kg. Next, I put in the bucket two old bricks with adhered residues of mortar, weighing about 5 kg. The plastic bucket began to deform, so one of the bricks had to be laid out. (Pictured is a bucket with one brick). However, we can safely say that a thread with a thickness of about four millimeters is capable of withstanding a load of more than 20 kg.
