We all love Spathiphyllum for its decorative appearance. White exotic flowers set against a background of dark green glossy leaves can decorate the interior of any room. And if you trust the signs, the plant helps to establish personal life, bringing happiness and harmony to the house. No wonder its second name is "Women's Happiness".

However, over time, spathiphyllum begins to age and lose its former decorative effect. No matter how favorable the growth conditions are, age-related changes will sooner or later make themselves felt. Regular rejuvenation will help stop this process.

Is aging bad?

There is nothing wrong with aging spathiphyllum. This is a natural process during which the shoots of the flower are gradually exposed. This is due to the regular death of the leaves. In nature, the plant "lays down" on the ground, thus continuing its existence, but at home this does not happen. As a result, the bare parts of the flower with the remnants of leaves and root rudiments begin to spoil the appearance and catch the eye.

In addition, the dark green leaves of spathiphyllum gradually lose their elasticity, begin to bend around the edges and dry out. The plant no longer looks healthy.

How to solve the problem of aging

To solve the problem of aging, spathiphyllum needs to be rejuvenated. To do this, a rosette with a stem about 4 cm long is carefully cut off and placed in a container of water for rooting. After about a week, the first roots appear. It takes a little time for them to reach a size of 4-6 cm. Once this happens, the young spathiphyllum will be ready to plant.

Spathiphyllum should be planted in a versatile substrate that can be purchased at a gardening store. Depending on the brand, a two-liter package will cost from 300 to 450 rubles.

If there is no store within walking distance, you can make the mixture yourself from high-moor peat and sand.

note

After the rosette with a part of the stem is cut off and placed in water for rooting, the leaves may lose turgor. Do not be afraid. This is totally normal. To avoid wilting, you can put a transparent plastic bag on the spathiphyllum. It will increase the humidity level.
