Not all owners of suburban areas begin the summer cottage season with the preparation of the garden for the first plantings. Many have to repair the damage and calculate the damage after a long winter. Greenhouses break through from the snow, branches of fruit trees break, roofs begin to leak and gutters come off. The cost of repairing damaged structures amounts to thousands, and in some cases tens of thousands of rubles.

To avoid damage, the site must be prepared for the onset of cold weather from the fall. I will tell you how to do this using the example of gutters. It is they who most often suffer from ice and snow.

First of all, you need to check the correct installation of the gutter. It should be just below the roof slope line and have a slope. It is important that during an avalanche descent, the snow practically does not cling to the drain. Correct installation will reduce the risk of serious damage, but will not guarantee structural integrity.

To ensure that the gutter remains intact, you will have to resort to some tricks.

  1. To prevent snow from touching the drain during an avalanche, you can slip polycarbonate or plywood scraps under the roof. Homemade protection will prevent ice from catching the gutter, as a result of which it remains intact. The method is reliable, but laborious.
  2. The gutters can be attached to hangers, which will allow the structure to deflect during snow melting. Without load, the gutters will return to their original position and continue to collect rainwater. However, this flexibility is both an advantage and a disadvantage. In a strong wind, the gutters will sway and will not be able to fully fulfill their function. Hangers can be made of wire or thick, non-rotting rope.
  3. Removable gutters are guaranteed to solve the problem. Snow will not break the drain if it is dismantled in the fall. The solution is time consuming but effective.
  4. If the gutter is installed correctly and the snow practically does not touch the gutter, additional fasteners will be the solution to the problem. They can be purchased separately from the kits. Double the number of brackets will allow you to withstand icing and avalanche snow falls.
