Have you ever washed vegetables or dishes in the kitchen sink? Doesn't the question sound a bit wild? Of course, everyone washed the dishes and prepared vegetables or meat for slicing, rinsing them under running water.
And, of course, everyone faced the same problem, it is extremely inconvenient to wash baking trays, large pots, large vegetables in sinks with stationary mixers. Water, launched with high pressure, strives to scatter in all directions and flood the surroundings, and a small pressure performs a purely symbolic function - it does not wash, but wets. To solve these problems, the kitchen mixer with pull-out spout was invented and commercialized.
Hello, have you called for water?
This invention immediately found its consumers, which spurred the developers to improve the product and expand the entire product line. And why it became so popular, and what the modern market offers, you will find out today.

For any conditions and taste
It is possible for two bowls.
The idea of washing dishes and food without putting them under the stream of water and turning them, but bringing pressure to the required surface, has been in the air for a long time. In the recent past, in many homes one could find plastic nozzles on a rubber hose, which in turn was pulled over a stationary kitchen faucet.
This simple design was the prototype of those very faucets with pull-out spouts. Such a home-grown system had undeniable advantages, which were subsequently implemented in stationary models.
Namely:
- If the hose is long enough, water can be brought to any point in the sink;
- By increasing the pressure for washing dishes that do not tolerate abrasive cleaning agents, you are guaranteed to direct the jets of water exactly to the right place, without splashing throughout the kitchen;
- When pretreating products, for example, fish, it can be extremely inconvenient to hold it suspended and wash it; this problem can be easily solved using a flexible hose.
- It is easier to wash the sink directly with the help of a flexible hose, collecting food debris on a special mesh to prevent them from entering the drain system and clogging the system;
- And one more positive point. Often there is a need to collect a large container of water, for example, a bucket or boil. It is extremely inconvenient to collect it in a stationary sink, and this container will not fit into any sink. The pull-out spout easily solves this problem too.
Pluses are pluses, and using one model is boring. That is why three types of mixers have been developed according to their functional characteristics.
- First view. Kitchen faucet with a pull-out spout, where a nozzle is attached to a flexible hose from a stationary bend of the tap. The nozzle has two modes of water supply. This view is shown in the photo;
Nozzle with two modes of water supply.
- Second view. Kitchen faucets with pull-out spout, where the tip of the faucet is represented by a shower head. This type is considered more complex, since the nozzle itself has different modes of water supply, and besides, this type of nozzle is more ergonomic (more convenient to use). We look at the photo;
Kitchen shower.
- Third view. Kitchen faucets with a flexible spout of this type are considered semi-professional. In them, the flexible hose is not hidden inside the structure, but is suspended separately. It is often used in cafes, restaurants, as well as in sinks, where two or more bowls are provided.
And hangs to itself.
Characteristics, and from the place of work also
As you can imagine, the above gradation is not limited to. There are a number of other divisions that will still be useful to learn, and not only out of curiosity, but also from a practical point of view.
So, a flexible bend kitchen faucet can be:
- Single-lever mixer. Everything is clear here - there is a single lever, located on a spherical base, which turns on the water supply and in certain positions regulates its temperature and pressure;
Single-lever mixer.
- Two-valve mixer. You know, a kind of tribute to the retro style, two taps, unscrewed one, hot water went, unscrewed the second - cold. At the same time, replacing internal cartridges with your own hands is such a familiar thing that an instruction is not needed. But seriously, it's just an amateur model;
Two valves are a classic.
- Contactless, electronic mixers. The last word in technology. In this system, water is turned on only when an object, for example, a hand or a saucepan, enters the field of the element's "view".
The price of such an innovation is of course marginal. And this explains the low demand for these products, as well as the small number of models and low sales of mixers.
To revive the market, the designers tried to create a hybrid - electronic-mechanical mixers. They succeeded, there is also an electronic filling and ordinary levers. But the price of the product does not differ much from the price of contactless, which clearly does not add buyers.
A contactless miracle.
There are a number of other divisions, which are given here more with an optional purpose, and will not be of fundamental importance for ordinary home cooking. But for a professional kitchen, these differences can make a difference.
So, along the length of the hose:
- Shortened - spouts up to 20 cm long fall under these characteristics;
- Average - hose length from 20 to 24 cm;
- Long - from 24 cm
Note! The length of the outflows can be much greater and reach 1m or more, but such mixers have not found their practical use in everyday life, but the cost of such a product declares itself quite loudly.
Note! The mixer spout is able to rotate around its axis, and it is considered that the wider the range of rotation, the better the model.
According to this indicator, there is also a division of mixers:
- Rotation angle up to 140 degrees is typical for economy class models;
- Middle-class mixers are characterized by a 180 degree rotation;
- VIP models revolve around their axis.
On a note! There is a division according to the shape of the spout, but due to the fact that this parameter lies more in the plane of aesthetics than practical use, this division is not considered in this material.
But what you really need to pay attention to when choosing faucets with spouts is the type of case. The case is:
- Cast;
- Made.
There are no seams in cast bodies, the parts are connected using a special technology. This type of connection is considered more reliable, since the number of potentially dangerous zones is reduced.
The prefab mixer speaks for itself. It consists of several components, which potentially increases the risk of product breakdown. However, a properly assembled mixer will last long enough.

Few common features
It is also more convenient.
Individuality is great, but there should also be common, standard characteristics for all types of mixers that will allow them to fit into the kitchen without fear.
And they really are, please:
- The system is mounted on one hole, quickly and independently;
- The product consists of a metal body and a spout on a flexible hose;
- Hot and cold water switches in the usual mode (for a contactless mixer, see the instructions);
- For water supply, standard flexible hoses are used (as a rule, they come with mixers, hoses for hot and cold water differ in color and marking).
Interesting to know! Each mixer has certain performance limits. So, the water temperature can be a maximum of 80 degrees Celsius, the pressure is 1.6 MPa, while the working pressure is considered to be 0.4 MPa, and the peak in the system is 1.0 MPa.
Additional bonuses
And a separate tap for diversion.
There are mixers, which provide for additional drainage of water for technical and drinking needs. This system allows not only to carry out drainage, for example for a dishwasher or washing machine, but also to connect a water purification filter.
For these needs, a separate feed mode switch is provided, and there is a separate tap for treated water. This system prevents the mixing of purified water and tap water. And even when switching to household appliances, in order to avoid breakdowns, separate shut-off valves are provided in the mixers.
Finally
If you want to fully wash the dishes in the sink, and not juggle them, there is a way out - buy a kitchen faucet with a flexible spout. And our traditional video, by the way, says the same thing.
