Good afternoon, my reader. The usual apple trees, pears and plums are now not suitable for every summer resident. More and more exotic cultures appear in Russian gardens. Some of them require shelter from frost. However, there are cold-resistant plants that are quite suitable for the climate of the middle zone.

Loch multiflorous (gumi)

An unusual-looking berry shrub begins to bear fruit 4-5 years after planting in the ground. In spring, gumi looks attractive thanks to its silvery-gray crown adorned with fragrant white flowers. The harvest of blood red oblong berries ripens in early August. Exotic fruits have a pleasant sweet and sour taste.

The plant is self-fertile, however, in order to increase the yield, it is advisable to plant it in small groups (at least 2-3 pieces). The heat-loving culture prefers non-swampy, well-lit areas, sheltered from the cold.

In late autumn, the trunk circle is mulched with humus, and the long shoots of gumi are bent to the ground and fixed in this position. Then they cover it with burlap folded in several layers, or agrofibre. You can also use brushwood and spruce branches.

Dereza Chinese

A frost-resistant thorny bush that can withstand frosts down to -25 ° C, in regions with a harsh climate, it is recommended to grow in containers. In the middle zone of the Russian Federation, the culture is planted in open ground in late September (autumn) or early May (spring).

The place for the tree is chosen from the south or southwest side of the site. The shrub is unpretentious to the type and composition of the soil, but it must be loose. The plant has a long flowering period (May - October). At the end of the season, the delicate purple flowers turn into red oval berries. The crop is harvested several times over the summer.

Dogwood

The stone fruit tree (shrub) is covered with bright yellow flowers in early spring. This process begins even before the leaves appear and lasts up to 3 weeks. The elongated fruits have a sour taste and are usually colored bright red. There are varieties with pink, golden and even black berries.

An unpretentious plant tolerates frosts. Only young seedlings need winter shelter. The composition of the soil does not affect the development of dogwood. In addition, it can grow both in the sun and in shade. Planting in open ground is carried out in April or September - October, so that the culture has time to take root before the onset of frost.

Golden currant

Unusual currants are sometimes called "forest". Unlike common varieties of this culture, the bushes of the golden berry grow up to 2 m in height. The leaf plates have no characteristic odor and are colored light green.

Bunches of lemon-yellow fragrant buds appear in May-June. An unpretentious plant bears fruit abundantly, the yield from one adult bush reaches 5-6 kg.

The berries, most often bright yellow or orange in color, are very sweet in taste. The plant does not need a winter shelter, it tolerates drought well, and is unpretentious in care.

Outlandish plants most often frighten summer residents with an unusual type or name for the middle lane. In fact, each of them is worth growing, if not in the open field, then at least in a container.
