Good afternoon, my reader. The thermophilic plant, clematis, cannot always be grown in temperate climates. Summer residents complain that a luxurious perennial vine lags behind in development, blooms poorly, does not tolerate winter well and often simply dies. This problem is solvable if you adhere to the key points of landing and grooming.

Landing

A spectacular perennial does not tolerate a transplant. Therefore, a permanent place for the flower should be chosen in advance. In addition, when buying seedlings, it is best to take plants with a closed root system.

Southern culture prefers open, sunny areas, sheltered from cold winds. In order for the vine to feel comfortable and develop safely, the dimensions of the planting hole must correspond to the size of the roots.

Soil composition

A perennial plant needs light, fertile soil, rich in organic matter. Therefore, when planting in a spacious hole, low-lying peat, compost, humus are added. Since a thermophilic culture does not tolerate acidic soil, a couple of glasses of wood ash are added to the nutrient components.

In this case, the bottom of the planting pit must be equipped with good drainage, since clematis cannot withstand stagnant moisture. For the same reason, the vine is not planted in areas with a close occurrence of groundwater.

Spacing between bushes

In group plantings of clematis, it is necessary to maintain a distance (1-1.5 m) between neighboring plants. This is necessary in order for the vines to receive good lighting. In addition, this planting stimulates the development of the root system and provides perennials with adequate nutrition and moisture.

Care

It is impossible to achieve good development and abundant flowering of clematis without taking care of the growing conditions. Basic plant care includes:

  • watering;
  • top dressing;
  • sanitary pruning;
  • weed control;
  • loosening the soil.

In addition, the root zone of the heat-loving liana must be mulched with humus (compost, peat). This procedure is especially important during the preparation for wintering. Spruce branches are laid on top of the mulch, and in the northern regions they are also covered with agrofibre.

Watering

A tall perennial needs moderate watering, which is carried out in the absence of natural precipitation. In hot, dry periods, soil moisture is maintained as needed. After each watering, the soil must be loosened.

Important! Clematis react negatively to stagnant water in the soil: excess moisture leads to the development of fungal infections and root rot.

Top dressing

A perennial, profusely blooming liana greatly depletes the soil. Therefore, it is simply impossible to do without systematic feeding. To restore the balance of nutrients, organic matter is alternated with mineral fertilizers.

During the season, clematis is fed at least 3 times. In early spring, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are applied to the soil: this stimulates the growth of young shoots and speeds up the growing season. In this case, the root zone of the vines is mulched with organic matter.

The second feeding is carried out during the period of bud formation, before the beginning of flowering. Fertilizers should contain phosphorus, potassium, molybdenum, boron, etc. It is best to use ready-made mineral (liquid) complexes that are added to the water for irrigation. Herbal infusions containing all the necessary nutrients give a good effect.

At the end of the season, perennial crops are fed with fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium salts. These components, which strengthen the immune system and promote the development of the root system, allow the plant to winter safely. In addition, they stimulate the laying of vegetative buds for the next year.

Capricious, according to many summer residents, the vine needs only competent care. In good conditions, clematis not only bloom magnificently, but also grow in one place for several decades in a row.
