"Ghosts" on the contrary: 4 empty cities that were never inhabited

The construction industry, perhaps, will always exist, but in any historical period there will certainly be objects that are empty. Often, any settlements eventually cease to be natural for life and economic management and infrastructure. And sometimes it happens exactly the opposite: cities that have been building for a long time and hope to populate, for various reasons, remain empty. To your attention there are “four” settlements in which no residents have appeared.

The city of Kanbashi is located in the Ordos urban district in northern China. It began to be erected during the so-called construction boom, and the future residential complex was supposed to be home to 300,000 Chinese citizens. However, the promising metropolis has remained an unsuccessful real estate investment.

The reason was the global financial crisis, due to which several developers at once simply ran out of money. Construction was stopped, and when it became clear that it would not be possible to return the invested funds, some investors began to offer to destroy the already erected buildings in order to make room for other potential projects. However, the final decision has not yet been made, and the empty city stands as a reminder of unsuccessful investments.

Not far from the Spanish city of Seseña - the area between Madrid and Toledo - billionaire Francisco Hernando built a large-scale residential complex with 13,500 apartments. Erected in the midst of a boom in demand for real estate, it received the title of the largest construction project in Europe among those erected by private developers.

In 2008, the lenders of the project received 2,000 apartments, but soon after, the government initiated a halt to further sales. The reason was the lack of drinking water, as well as permission to move into the buildings. In addition, the infrastructure of the future complex was also not ready. And when the billionaire Hernando himself had problems with the law due to accusations of tax evasion and bribery, no one spoke about the completion of the construction.

3. Kijondon

Not far from the Demilitarized Zone, the North Korean authorities built the city of Kijondong, also called the "propaganda village." This place is the only settlement of the DPRK that can generally be viewed from the territory of South Korea.

There is little information about the city of Kijondong. Most often, there is evidence that the settlement consists of bright fake "houses" without internal premises, but with electricity. Although the lights in the windows are on, they are on schedule - in the same places and at a certain time. There is no population in it either: only sometimes in Kijondong they see builders, soldiers or women washing the windows.

4. Kilamba

Kilamba is perhaps the largest growing city - the brainchild of an international Chinese investment corporation for property management, located 30 kilometers from Luanda, the capital of Angola, is calculated not much, not a little for half a million human.

The city's infrastructure includes 750 eight-story residential buildings, as well as about a hundred shopping centers and several dozen schools. The construction was completed long ago, but Kilamba remains practically empty. It's all about the financial situation in the state: most local residents are simply not able to purchase such an expensive real estate, even taking out a mortgage.
