Boarding time

The time when you can start planting grapes in spring is directly dependent on the climate and weather conditions of a particular region. It is also necessary to take into account the type of seedling: they can be with open or closed roots.

Planting plants with an open root system is usually done in early spring, as soon as the soil warms up. But this period varies in different territories:

instagram viewer
  1. In the Urals, Siberia and the Leningrad Region - not earlier than the end of May.
  2. In the Moscow region and neighboring areas - in the second half of May. Early planting is also possible, but then the seedlings must be protected from evening and night frosts with the help of special shelters.
  3. Southern regions - second half of March and April.
Important. Planting grapes in cold soil adversely affects the development of the plant and can lead to the death of the roots.

Planting material with closed roots must be stored in containers. Its transfer to open ground should be carried out when a stable air temperature is established - 10-15 degrees, soil - 8-10 degrees.

Landing rules

How the vine will develop, as well as the quantity and quality of the berries, depends on adherence to the planting rules. Every gardener should take a responsible approach to the cultivation of this crop.

Selection of seedlings

One of the most important steps in grape cultivation is the selection of seedlings. Novice growers should find a reliable plant material supplier who can provide detailed information on seedlings. When buying planting material, you need to find out the answers to the following questions:

  1. Is the variety zoned for the area?
  2. Does the seedling have a developed root system?
  1. Are there leaves on the planting specimen? (On samples with open roots, they are absent, with closed ones - there should be 2-3 healthy leaves).
  2. Are there cracks, damage, mold or disease on the plant?

Preparing for landing

Before planting in open ground, preliminary preparation of seedlings is necessary to assess their condition and increase survival rate:

  1. First you need to inspect the seedling and trim the top a little. Healthy plants are light green in color. The presence of foreign spots or inclusions indicates poor quality planting material.
  2. Next, you need to inspect the roots: they should be a light coffee shade. The main part should be shortened to 10-20 centimeters, and the lower one should be cut off by 1-2 centimeters. Roots that are too long will bend upward during planting, which will prevent the plant from adapting to new conditions.
  3. After all the above procedures, it is necessary to soak the seedlings by immersing them in water at room temperature for 12-24 hours.
  4. Before planting, the roots should be treated with a clay mash.

After that, the grapes can be planted. It is advisable to choose a landing place on the southern side of the summer cottage. It should be illuminated by the sun and protected from northerly winds and drafts. The preferred types of soil are sandy loam, loamy or black soil.

The roots of the grapes should not be buried more than 40 centimeters. The greatest permissible planting depth is 50-60 centimeters - in arid regions, on stony soils and slopes; the smallest - 25 centimeters - on clay soils and with a close occurrence of groundwater.

Advice. After placing the seedling in the recess, you need to pour 2-3 buckets of water into it and wait until the moisture is absorbed. Only then can you fill the hole with earth.

Young plants need to be shaded, regularly loosened and watered. It is advisable to mulch the soil to retain moisture in the soil and protect the roots from sudden changes in temperature.

Compliance with all these rules and recommendations guarantees good fruiting of the future vineyard.
