If you get out of the bustling city center and stroll through the private sector, you will notice that many of the houses in it are made of wood. Not surprising, because this material has long been the most accessible and inexpensive.
If everything is more or less clear with the construction of wooden houses, then many have problems with their insulation. The owners of such buildings in 90% of cases make serious mistakes, because of which all efforts go down the drain. Today I will tell you about 2 blunders to avoid.
1. Expanded polystyrene is an unsuitable insulation for wooden houses
I have no complaints about the material itself. As a heater, expanded polystyrene demonstrates quite good properties. However, the material is synthetic; in tandem with natural wood, it has certain disadvantages.
I believe that wooden houses should be insulated with natural materials that will allow air to pass through, in other words, “breathe”. In this case, I recommend using basalt or mineral wool.
If you have already bought polystyrene foam, it doesn't matter. You should not get rid of it, since it will serve as an excellent insulation for the basement floor or the foundation of the building.
2. Before insulating the wall, you need to get rid of fungus and mold.
If you are going to insulate a wooden house, first carefully inspect it from all sides. The walls must be dry and clean. Make sure they are free of fungus, bugs, etc.
If you hide damp walls under the insulation, then create a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. For them, such conditions are a real paradise in which they will actively reproduce. It is very difficult for people to live in a house affected by mold and fungi.
If you notice logs hit by a bug when you look around the house, be sure to change them. I also advise you to treat the walls with antiseptic drugs several times, each time letting them dry completely.
Note that mineral wool is incompatible with water. If you will use this insulation, then immediately after installation, cover it with a wind-moisture protective film.
