How can you replace the brake fluid in a car in a critical situation on the road?

Let's imagine for a second such an unpleasant situation: all the brake fluid has leaked out. There is no store nearby, there are no other drivers either, it is not possible to call a tow truck, but you need to go right now. And here a natural question arises: is it possible to replace the brake fluid in a car with something for a short time in order to reach the destination and qualified assistance? The answer to this question is yes, you can! But you should use such driver's advice only in the most extreme, hopeless case.

Brake fluid in a car is needed to transfer power from the master brake cylinder to the wheel brake cylinders. It is clearly not worth reminding that the braking system in a car is one of the most important and key ones, including for safety reasons. But what is definitely worth saying is that the machine needs regular maintenance and testing of critical systems. First of all - brake.

Particular attention should be paid to the hoses during maintenance when servicing the brake system. They should be examined at least twice a year. Most often, a brake fluid leak occurs when one of these hoses bursts. If there is nowhere to wait for help, then in such a situation it is necessary first of all to muffle the brake pipe, to which the ill-fated hose is attached. This can be done either by deforming (pinching) the tube itself or simply by screwing a suitable bolt into it. The next step is to find a temporary replacement for the brake fluid.

The volume of technical specifications in the car is not great. In most passenger car models, it does not exceed 1 liter. In the most extreme case, when there is nothing else left and there is no way to call a tow truck, you can use one of the following four replacement fluids:

Antifreeze - one of the best options among extreme ones. Does not rust, boil or freeze. If necessary, it can be easily drained from the engine expansion tank.

Gora liquid Is a great alternative, but it will be extremely difficult to get it. Most often, drivers do not have a spare tank with them. You can try to drain it from the power steering pump. However, the slightest mistake with the volume will lead to the fact that the power steering will simply fail.

Water - the worst option of the extreme. Can only be used in extreme cases. Water must not be poured into the brakes in winter - it will freeze. In other seasons, it can boil easily during braking. And the most important thing is that water in the brake system can subsequently cause the development of corrosion.

Non-freezing liquid Is just as bad as water. The disadvantages are the same, except that in the cold, this liquid will not turn into ice.
