Last summer, I finally installed a drip irrigation system at my dacha. Long dreamed about her. And for good reason. The drip irrigation system has proven to be an effective and profitable purchase. Water is supplied directly to the roots of the plant, you can water it at any time of the day without fear that the sun's rays will damage wet leaves. In addition, it saves water, my energy - no need to run around and change hoses, time for watering. Only in order for the irrigation system to last more than one year, it must be properly preserved for the winter. You need to be in time with this event before the onset of the first frost. Today I will tell you how I carried out the conservation.

Turn off the system step by step

The main stage of conservation of the drip irrigation system is its shutdown. This can increase the service life and ensure uninterrupted operation in the new summer cottage season. The conservation procedure itself is not complicated, the main thing is to adhere to a certain algorithm of actions.

Step 1. Blowing

First, we remove water from the system. The best way is to blow it with compressed air. I turned off the controller and cut off the water supply. Then I connected the compressor to the purge unit. At this time, it is important to track when water stops oozing from the distributors and air begins to blow. After two minutes I turn off the compressor.

Step 2. We remove the system

The pumping station should be dismantled when it is installed outdoors or in an unheated room. For example, like mine - in the barn.

Step 3. I removed moisture from the pump, dried it and put it in a warm pantry.

Next, you need to protect the solenoid valves from frost. I insulated them with heat-insulating material. I took out the batteries from the timer. Check the power supplies, which may also be in the controller. If there are no batteries, disconnect the device from the mains, after removing the top panel on which the screen is located.

Step 4. I drain water from all containers

And I dry them, and then, so as not to get foreign objects during the idle period, I close them with hatches. Whether or not to remove sprinklers for the winter is up to you. I took it off so as not to accidentally damage them.

Step 5. I remove and put meteorological sensors into a warm room.

Precautions when turning off automatic irrigation for the winter

When carrying out work, it is important not to injure yourself and not damage the irrigation system. To do this, you should adhere to several rules:

  1. Wear protective goggles when working. Since when using a compressor with compressed air, small debris rises upward, which can easily get into the eyes.
  2. Do not stand near vented items.
  3. Do not leave the compressor unattended.

Proper preservation of the drip irrigation system for the winter will help protect it from the negative effects of cold temperatures. It is not difficult to do this, the main thing is to follow the parsing algorithm and not forget about safety precautions.
