Different types of currants are grown on my site. This culture pleases with a good harvest of large fragrant berries, subject to systematic feeding.
Spring fertilization
After the end of the winter period, shrubs need sufficient nutrient compounds to recover. I also take into account that the soil is naturally depleted, so be sure to practice spring feeding.
For young plants for 2-3 years after planting in early spring, I use nitrogen fertilizers. The norm is 6-10 g / bush. This is enough if the site was with fertile soil.
Spring feeding of adult currant plantings also depends on the degree of soil fertility. The rate of application of organic matter (rotted compost or manure) per 1 m2:
- poorly cultivated soil - 5-6 kg annually;
- with an average fertility rate of 4-5 kg, maintaining an annual interval;
- well-cultivated land - 4-5 kg, observing a 2-year gap.
Feeding rules
The root system of currant bushes is of the surface type. In the black variety of this culture, their depth is 15-40 cm. They spread from the center of the shrub to the periphery by 0.5-0.6 m.In the red species, the depth of the roots is on average 60 cm.
Taking into account the peculiarities, I distribute dry fertilizers evenly over the entire surface of the trunk circle of both types of currants, capturing a small area outside the crown. For liquid nutrient solutions, I make a groove around the perimeter no more than 30 cm deep.
Re-feeding
At the stage of the formation of the first buds, I make a mixture of ammonium nitrate with urea (15 g each). I supplement the mixture with calcium nitrate (35 g). I put this complex under the bush, provided that I used organic matter with phosphorus fertilizer in the fall. If this stage was skipped, then I use manure, which I dilute 1:10 with water. For every 10 liters of nutrient fluid, add urea (2 tsp. l.). The rate is 2 l / bush.
I practice the next feeding when the berries are tied. I use 4 tsp. l. nutritious universal complex "Berry", dissolved in a 10-liter container with water. The norm is 3 l / bush.
After 14-15 days, I irrigate currant bushes with urea (2 tsp. l. / 10 l of separated water).
The final stage is the time when the crop is harvested, but the autumn frosts have not yet come. For this purpose, 2 hours. l. I dissolve superphosphate in a 10-liter container of water. This volume is calculated for each individual bush.
Subject to a simple feeding system aimed at improving the development of currant plantings, it is possible to obtain a bountiful harvest of large, high-quality aromatic berries annually.
