Habanero peppers are known for their spicy, spicy flavor. It has found wide application in cooking, it is even used to make cocktails. To grow a culture at home, you must follow certain rules. I'll tell you about them and about the pepper itself in more detail.
Habanero Pepper Features
The variety has a high yield. Subject to all the rules of planting and growing, it is possible to remove up to 2 kg of hot peppers.
The bush grows compact, reaches a height of about 30 cm. Numerous dark green shoots cover small, oblong leaves.
During the fruiting period, the plant forms small peppers, reaching a maximum of 6 cm in size and weighing no more than 50 g. In shape, they resemble Bulgarian ones. At the stage of biological maturity, they have a rich yellow or scarlet color. The skin is very thin and tender.
I use Habanero to spic up meat dishes, sauces and soups.
Advantages and disadvantages
I want to separately talk about the benefits of the Habanero variety:
- Pronounced spicy taste.
- High yield.
- Opportunity to harvest fruits throughout the year.
- Attractive appearance.
But he also has disadvantages:
- Low resistance to cold.
- Attacked by nematodes.
Fruit juice irritates the mucous membrane so much that they have to be collected only with gloves.
Features of planting and growing
Habanero belongs to the thermophilic varieties of chili peppers. I grow it exclusively in a greenhouse, this allows me to get the maximum yield with high palatability.
I start planting in the greenhouse in mid-May. Therefore, I sow seedlings no later than the first half of March.
Planting material is pre-selected, disinfected and germinated. Only then I place it in nutrient soil. I put the box on the window, while trying to create a microclimate:
- Temperature indicators: 25-27оС.
- Humidity: 70%.
- Light day: 14 hours.
At the stage of two true leaves, I pick seedlings, leaving the strongest seedlings.
Planting in a greenhouse
I transplant seedlings into closed ground as soon as the air temperature warms up to 25 ° C, and the soil - up to 8 ° C.
I first dig up the earth, apply organic and mineral fertilizers.
21 days after the procedure, I make planting holes 25 cm deep and at a distance of 35 cm from each other.
I add a small amount of wood ash to the bottom. Seedlings are moved by transshipment. I sprinkle with earth and water abundantly.
Caring for Habanero Peppers in a Greenhouse
The plant prefers moderate watering, which does not allow the soil to dry out completely.
Together with watering, I carry out top dressing, adhering to the scheme:
- 14 days after transplanting seedlings;
- during flowering;
- during the fruiting period.
I use ready-made complex compositions.
As soon as the bush has reached a height of 20 cm, I pinch the crown.
In addition, I recommend removing some of the flowers so that the plants get stronger and give a high yield.
Features of collecting fruits
Chili pepper, which is grown in a greenhouse, belongs to annual plants. Habanero fruits can be harvested after 120 days. I recommend taking personal protective measures so as not to get burned.
I keep fruits fresh in the refrigerator for 10 days. Canned - up to 4 months.
So, Habanero is acceptable to grow in the conditions of the average region. For planting, I chose a greenhouse. I grow seedlings. Subject to all the rules of agricultural technology, I harvest with high taste.
