A change in the color and texture of a raspberry leaf in the summer never happens without good reason. Most often, the cause of the appearance of yellow and dry tan marks is care errors, lack of nutrition, various pathogens and parasites. The good news is that with due attention and timely response, it is quite possible to save raspberries and not even lose yields. But if serious drying of leaves and shoots is allowed, then the bush will most likely die.
One of the worst factors will be infection, since such conditions are not treatable and require the disposal of the plant. However, this condition is relatively rare, I will tell you more about the more common causes.
nutritional deficiency
Certain changes in appearance often indicate which mineral element is missing in raspberries. I must say right away that if the feeding of raspberries takes place on time according to the schedule, then, as a rule, there is no lack of nutrients. If, in the middle of the summer season, you saw various unhealthy conditions of the green mass, then by some important nuances you can determine what exactly the bush lacks:
- nitrogen - inhibition in growth, small leaves, pallor and yellowness of tone;
- sulfur - thinning of cuttings and shoots, pallor and yellowness;
- iron - gradual loss of color of the leaf plate while maintaining the greenness of the veins;
- magnesium - general wilting, drying out and the appearance of yellow spots on the surface of the leaves;
- calcium - the appearance of yellow stripes on the leaf plate, darkening and drying of the marginal line;
- boron - a manifestation of a scattering of small yellow spots, the growth of "hollow" shoots that quickly turn yellow and dry out;
- zinc - gray-yellow spots grow in size over time and merge together.
The lack of substances is dealt with by a logical method - the introduction of mono-additives or complex fertilizers. It is important to determine as accurately as possible which element the shrub needs. It should also be noted that chlorosis (lack of iron) is very easy to confuse with viral jaundice - in this case, examination and diagnosis of the condition of raspberries should be carried out as carefully as possible.
Diseases and pests
Another common cause of the yellowness of raspberry leaves is diseases and parasitic insects. For the most part, they are treatable, the main thing is to quickly respond to the first signs and start processing. Otherwise, there is a risk of losing the entire raspberry tree, since the infection is quickly transmitted from bush to bush and affects all plantings at once.
Most often, the following diseases can be diagnosed:
- viral chlorosis (raspberry jaundice);
- root cancer (root goiter);
- fungal rust;
- ring spot;
- late blight;
- curly;
- aphid;
- spider mite.
Viral infections are the most dangerous, as they are practically untreatable. Specialized preparations help to cope with the rest of the pathogens.
Mistakes in agricultural technology
Raspberries are strong and hardy shrubs, but improper care can lead to wilting and yellowing of the leaves. Most often, errors occur in the following activities:
- lack of necessary thinning of the bush crown;
- lack of moisture;
- high acidity of the soil;
- excessive irrigation.
When the correct cause is identified, it is usually easy to eliminate the error - it is enough to adjust the caring procedures, feed or treat with the desired medicinal composition.
