Sometimes there is such a problem, known to many gardeners, when the pepper grows well and blooms profusely, but does not bear fruit. This indicates the absence of ovaries. For some reason they didn't form. Let's try to figure out together why sweet or bitter peppers do not bear fruit.
Why don't ovaries form?
There can be quite a few reasons why there are no ovaries on peppers. The main ones are non-compliance with the temperature regime, lack of pollination, and exposure to pests.
Violation of the temperature regime
If the air in the greenhouse is too cold, it is quite possible to shed flowers and set fruits. Pepper is a thermophilic plant. For normal development, he needs a temperature in the range of + 25... + 28 degrees. Therefore, it is better to cultivate such a culture in greenhouses and greenhouses, where you can regulate the air temperature.
Watering should be carried out with water at room temperature and preferably at night. In addition, a bucket or any other container with well-warmed water should be left in the greenhouse so that the evaporation transfers heat to the soil.
But keep in mind that too high a temperature will be fatal. At +30 degrees and above, the ovaries do not form, and the flowers fall off in a few days. Therefore, on hot days, plants should be well watered and often sprayed.
Pollination did not occur
The ovaries are formed due to pollination. But if the weather is cold, pollen will not form. And if the air warms up to +30... +35 degrees, the pollen becomes sterile, that is, unsuitable for setting the fetus.
Pollination can be stimulated with the help of preparations "Bud", "Ovary".
But keep in mind that the taste of fruits will be slightly different from the taste of fruits grown by natural pollination.
Harmful insects
Pest attacks can also interfere with the active formation of ovaries in pepper. Perhaps the most dangerous for peppers are ants. They make their multiple burrows in loose soil, after which they attract aphids there. Hard-working insects themselves carry aphids along the stem and leaves of the plant in their jaws. The aphids begin to feed on the tissues of the pepper and secrete a sticky, sweet liquid that the ants feast on.
Peppers affected by aphids turn yellow, the leaves curl, then gradually die. Even already formed ovaries fall off.
In addition to aphids, peppers can be attacked by the Colorado potato beetle, slugs and spider mites. Fungicides must be used to control pests.
What to do?
To avoid empty flowers, you need to follow the basic rules of growing:
- Follow the watering schedule. Do not over-moisten the soil and let it dry out.
- Water with slightly warm water.
- For top dressing, use complex mineral fertilizers, in which the nitrogen content is low.
- Monitor the temperature in the greenhouse.
- In hot weather, spray peppers.
- Cut off flowers in time in which the ovary has not been formed.
Pepper is considered a fairly demanding crop. To get a good harvest, you will have to make some effort. But if you follow the basic recommendations for growing, you can achieve an abundant ovary and amicable ripening of fruits.
