Natural organic supplements have a number of significant advantages: they are environmentally friendly, safe, affordable and available. At the same time, the preparation of effective top dressing in most recipes is as simple as possible - water, cut tops and some additional ingredient are enough for fertilizer.
Nettle greens are rich in trace elements that are easily absorbed by plants. Due to its nutritional composition, it has a beneficial effect on vegetable crops:
- stimulates growth;
- accelerates vegetation;
- enhances immunity;
- provides abundant flowering;
- improves productivity qualitatively.
Another significant advantage I can name is the versatility of nettle infusion as a fertilizer - it is suitable for almost all vegetables, fruits and flowers. The exceptions are legumes, onions and garlic.
Recipe
I usually use nettle as a fertilizer in the form of an infusion. To prepare it, I use the standard cooking method:
- I cut and cut the stems and leaves of young nettles. Also at this stage I add an additional ingredient, if necessary.
- I fall asleep the green mass in the prepared container to half.
- I fill the container with warm water to the brim and cover with a lid on top.
- I insist fertilizer for two weeks, stirring the mass daily.
The recipe itself is simple, but requires compliance with several important nuances:
- nettles should be cut before the appearance of seed twigs;
- plastic or wooden utensils should be used as a storage container, as metals can react with the liquid and oxidize the fertilizer;
- to speed up the process, you can add a small amount of live yeast to the top dressing;
- if the container with the infusion is in the sun, then the preparation will be faster;
- to reduce the unpleasant odor, you can add a few valerian roots to the mass.
After the end of fermentation, the finished concentrate is diluted in a ratio of 1 to 10 and the beds are watered with the resulting infusion. If you use fertilizer for spraying, then the mass must be diluted in a ratio of 1 to 20.
Vegetable nutrition
For tomatoes, a small amount of comfrey is added to the standard composition. After preparing the top dressing, the beds are watered with it, spending up to 1 liter of liquid per bush. To speed up the growing season, tomatoes are additionally sprayed with infusion once every 3-4 weeks. I also use stinging nettles on tomato beds as mulch, as they are great at retaining moisture and preventing weed growth.
Nettle helps cucumbers during the flowering period - with such nutrition, ovaries form significantly more. The infusion is prepared together with comfrey, as for tomatoes, the irrigation scheme is also similar to tomato. With timely processing, you will see a significant and qualitative increase in yield.
Strawberries will thank you for the nettle-bread top dressing. After its application, the taste of berries will improve, as well as the health of young shoots. The cooking method changes somewhat: the container is filled with nettle tops for 3 quarters, the remaining quarter filled with bread leftovers, a liter of kvass and warm water are poured, then a small amount is added yeast. The mass is infused under the lid for 5 days, after which it is diluted according to the accepted scheme.
Nettle top dressing is safe for plants, watering can be done up to 2 times a month, spraying - monthly.
You will see the result already at harvest.
