All gardeners know that as soon as potatoes begin to grow actively, they are attacked by colorados. They eat leaves, spoil the future harvest, and simply annoy the owners of the beds. How to deal with these disgusting bugs that love potatoes so much? This is exactly what I will talk about in this article.

Potato Pest Control Methods

Potatoes are attacked not only by Colorados, but also by wireworm larvae, bears. They eat tubers and tops. Gardeners have been waging an endless struggle with the Colorados for many years. They collect them with their hands (both adults and their larvae), launch a special breed of chickens eating beetles into the beds, and use all kinds of folk methods. But the most effective method of struggle is still the use of special chemicals.

New insecticidal preparations appear on the market every year to help in the fight against colorados. These include the effective drug Commander and its improved version Commander +.

How effective is Commander+?

Commander + is based on imidacloprid. This substance does not have any negative effect on humans, but for beetles it is deadly. The Commander + works as follows: drops of the drug penetrate the thin skin of potatoes prepared for planting. As the potato grows, the drug penetrates into the stems and tubers. Beetles that eat leaves with this substance die. And it has no effect on people. I want to note that Commander + is effective not only in the fight against Colorados, but also against pests that live in the ground.

If you did not have time to soak the potato tubers in the preparation before planting, you can simply spray them with the leaves of the crops already planted on the beds. I only recommend doing this in dry and calm weather.

Benefits of Commander+

This drug not only kills pests, but also has a positive effect on the plants themselves (it helps to cope with stressful situations). I want to list the main positive qualities of this drug:

  • reliably protects potatoes from pests for 2 months after processing;
  • two packages of the drug are enough for 100 kg of planting material;
  • versatility. It helps in the fight against Colorado, Medvedka and other pests that live in the ground;
  • the presence of humic acid stimulates the growth of tubers;
  • increases plant immunity and protects against common diseases;
  • increases productivity;
  • increases resistance to negative environmental factors (drought, heat, frost).

Is the drug dangerous for people?

Commander + is aimed only at the destruction of pests. It does not harm the plant itself, and even more so people. Also, this tool does not change the taste of the culture.

How to use the Commander +

I use a preparation for treating potato tubers before planting according to the following scheme:

  1. I dissolve two bottles of the product in 1 liter of water.
  2. I mix everything thoroughly.
  3. I pour it into a spray bottle.
  4. I spray potato tubers with the drug 3-4 hours before planting.

Summing up, I want to note that for several years I have been using Commander + to combat various pests on potatoes. I have never seen a more effective drug. It not only reliably fights against colorados, but also has a positive effect on plants, increasing immunity, increasing the percentage of germination and the amount of future harvest. And Commander + is easy to use and has a long duration of action.
