There are many different ways of connecting wires: screw clamps, crimping, welding, soldering and others. A popular one is twisted flexible conductors. But the twist without soldering or welding is prohibited SAE rules.
To do this, there are good reasons. After all, copper wires are oxidized, and eventually transition the contact resistance increases. As a result, twisting place heated, which further exacerbates the situation. In the end, the contact breaks.

It happens that stranded wire should be connected to a single-core. In that case two conductors are processed separately. Single core - rosin and stranded - soldering grease.
Stranded wire is wound on a single core, and then a pair of pliers (or tweezers) bend the end of the veins back toward isolation (but not touching it) and press firmly. applying brazing technology is the same as described above.
