I am sure that your seedlings have grown strong and healthy, and are already ready to be planted in open ground or in a home greenhouse.

So that the seedlings planted in a permanent place of development take root well and do not get sick, I will tell you about several important rules for its transplant, following which you will definitely wait for a good harvest from each bush.

An important nuance for transplanting - if the weather is cloudy, I always transplant small bushes in the morning, and if it is sunny, then it is better to do this in the late afternoon.

Transplanting is always stressful for seedlings! Therefore, our task is to reduce it as much as possible for small plants.

To make the process of transplanting seedlings into the ground or greenhouse painless, the plants should be stopped watering a couple of days before planting. But an hour before transplanting, pour plenty of water. So it will be much easier to get the plant out of the container along with a clod of earth, without damaging the still weak root system.

I grow seedlings in so-called diapers (see. a photo). Therefore, I am always sure that it will take root quickly and without problems.
  • Then carefully place each bush together with a lump of earth into a prepared hole, previously filled with ash, compost or other fertilizers.
  • The holes should be 15 to 30 cm deep, depending on the root system of the seedling.
  • Slightly overgrown seedlings must be additionally buried in the ground by 10-12 cm.

It should be noted that a strong deepening inhibits fruiting for 10-15 days. This is due to the fact that after transplantation, the bush begins to engage in enhanced root growth on that piece of the stem that has gone deep into the ground.

We must try to place the plant on its side, and then abundantly (in several steps) fill the hole with the bush with water. Water should thoroughly wet the soil. This is important - the roots of tomato bushes will try to reach for moisture, and thus the root system will develop.

After all the water has been absorbed into the ground, the hole must be covered with earth. After planting the tomatoes do not need to be watered, otherwise a soil crust will form under each bush. My next action is to mulch the ground near the plant with a thick layer of hay or grass cuttings. They will effectively retain moisture in the future. I usually use the deep landing method.

Who cares 👉 Tomatoes "in the trench" - I'm not overjoyed at the new planting method. Now there is a lot of free time, and the harvest is even greater.

Attention! If you are planting tall bushes of tomatoes, then it is advisable to immediately install supports near the bushes to tie them up.
