Rarely does a city apartment boast peace and quiet.
Some have noisy neighbors, some have windows overlooking the playground, some constantly "enjoy" the sounds from the highway...
But there is another problem that does not depend on the location of the apartment in the city: a noisy sewer riser, when you very well hear that one of the neighbors from above has flushed the toilet.
How to achieve silence at least in the toilet?
To begin with, it is worth understanding why such good audibility occurs. Now, in most apartments, old cast-iron pipes have been replaced with new plastic ones.
However, metal conducts sound better by absorbing the vibration of the descending water.
And the rusty coating, due to which, in general, and began to change pipes everywhere, well deters noise.
Thus, the noise from the sewer pipes in the toilet occurs only for two main reasons: the material of the riser and its incorrect installation.
What elimination options did my wife come up with and was very puzzled by this?
1. Leave the cast iron pipe at the junction of the floor before changing pipes. This will at least reduce the sound.
Or, also before changing pipes, choose plastic pipes of increased thickness or new, silent pipes.
Manufacturers such as Rehau, Politek offer pipes consisting of several layers, which makes it possible to damp sounds and vibrations. The main disadvantage of such pipes is their high cost.
The disadvantages of such options - work has to be done BEFORE installation, and there may be problems with docking.
2. If the pipe is already installed, you can cover it with sound-absorbing materials, such as roll-up sound insulation, fiberglass, polyethylene foam.
The type of insulation is selected according to the budget and ease of installation: it is not always convenient to get close to the pipe in order, for example, to fix the roll-up sound insulation.
We fix such material with clamps.
From above, in order to give an aesthetic look, we install a drywall box.
As you can see, it is not at all necessary to put up with the noise of the sewer in the apartment: there are simple and affordable ways to isolate loud sounds.
