Plants
There are several rules for the selection of plants and arrangement of flower arrangements:
- Layout on the cardinal points. Plants are placed in height from north to south. This rule applies not only to flowers and shrubs, but also to trees. The latter, in addition to light-loving representatives, should be planted on the north side of the site. The lightest places are reserved for drought-resistant plants.
- Choosing a color palette. It depends on the style in which the territory will be decorated. For the French garden (regular geometric shapes, large glades), light colors are characteristic: white, sand, blue, beige. The English style (smooth lines, imitation of wildlife) assumes the predominance of different shades of green. A combination of white, light yellow and lilac colors is considered a good option.
- A natural meadow instead of a lawn. If the owner of the site does not have enough time to mow the grass, it is better to replace it with a mixture of field plants. The overgrown lawn spoils the view of the entire territory, and the tall and medium-sized grass creates an imitation of the meadow.
- Planting of decorative deciduous plants. These crops do not require constant maintenance like flowers. You can diversify the territory with bushes with different shades of leaves.
- Flowers in pots. It is not necessary to create a flower bed. It is much easier to plant plants in flowerpots and arrange them around the backyard. Potted flowers are easier to care for and can be taken indoors for the winter.
The trend of recent years is vertical gardening. A blank wall or unsightly fence can be decorated with climbing crops.
Space
Territories of any size can be beautifully decorated using the following tips:
- Panorama. A beautiful view should open from any point on the site. Therefore, it is worth taking care that sheds, pantries, compost heaps are covered with tall plants, preferably evergreens.
- Respect for proportions. Too large trees are inappropriate in small areas. It is better not to plant open areas only with low-growing varieties.
- Select the center of the composition. This can be a beautifully flowering tree, a lush shrub, rockery, a small pond, a gazebo, a fountain, etc. The rest of the elements of the garden, which are located nearby, should complement the center of the composition, but not draw attention to myself.
- Use of white. Light shades blur the outlines, so they visually expand the space.
- Curved lines. They also visually expand the boundaries, especially if they gradually narrow. When arranging winding paths, do not forget that, first of all, they must be functional.
- Paths as connecting elements. They help create a cohesive garden image.
- Contrast of forms. The winding paths are successfully combined with rectangular recreation areas, the pyramidal crowns of coniferous plants - with spherical shrubs.
The gardener doesn't always need to change the landscape. You can decorate a hill by arranging a rock garden on it, or a depression by making a pond in it.
Flower beds
Flower beds decorated with stones, cones and other elements look good. The creation of each of the composition options has its own characteristics, for example:
- Rockery. It is equipped according to the principle of creating flower arrangements: large elements in the background, small ones in the foreground. It is easier to care for a stone slide than for a rock garden. However, it cannot be left completely unattended - rockeries can overgrow with weeds or become a refuge for ants and other pests.
- Composition with gravel. Such beds do not need weeding and frequent watering. The main thing is to choose plants that will not only look advantageous against such a background, but will also be able to develop normally among the gravel.
- A flower bed with cones. They not only serve as decor, but also protect the roots of flowers from rodents. The buds also serve as organic fertilizer.
- No more than 3 flowers per flower bed. Do not make the composition too colorful. Use blooming crops as bright accents, not a base. Dwarf evergreens, lawns, cereals are suitable for the background.
- Stone curbs. The material is suitable not only for decorating flower beds, it can be used to protect trees, zone the space.
- Arch. The structure, painted with white paint, will add lightness to the composition. Light-colored arches go well with bright colors.
