Good afternoon, my reader. Ornamental shrubs are a great way to brighten up your suburban area and add a drop harmony in the landscape design of a garden and even a vegetable garden used for growing agricultural plants. A hedge planted around the perimeter will not only look great, but also protect from prying eyes, and small neat bushes in front of the house will create a special comfort and serenity.

For what purpose are ornamental bushes planted
In fact, in ornamental gardening, there are many useful tricks for ennobling the territory. Ornamental bushes are among the most popular among many designers. And that's why:
- low bushes, up to 50 centimeters in height, can be planted along garden paths, conveniently separating zones with different vegetation from each other;
- green walls of living shrubs can take any shape, complementing outlandish flower beds and other plants;
- a hedge made of tall shrubs not only serves as a fence, but also protects the site from dust and biological debris carried by the wind.
And this is not a complete list of all the goals that can be achieved with the help of an ornamental shrub.
Popular types of shrubs
For the formation of a hedge with lush vegetation and dense walls, semi-soft hawthorn is excellent. This beautiful plant can reach a height of 8 meters, but can be easily formed by cutting to the size you need. In addition, the bushes are equipped with thorns that will not let pests and other unfavorable guests into your site.
For the formation of zones on the site, as well as for decorating the paths, sod or bush elm are suitable. These shrubs in wildlife grow up to 3-4 meters, but lend themselves well to pruning and shaping. At the same time, sod can grow in the shade, but it is picky about the composition of the soil, which cannot be said about spirea viburnum, which, among other things, is resistant to a sharp decrease and increase in temperature regime.
As a green border, holly magnolia is perfect, which, in addition to beautiful flowering, supplies gardeners with delicious berries. This culture is relatively unpretentious in care, however, it requires insulation during possible frosts.
Coniferous shrubs
Coniferous shrubs are no less popular, which are mostly decorative. This type is quite branchy and tall, but does not reach full-fledged trees. By trimming the crown, you can shape various garden shapes or simply trim them neatly for a proper look.
The indisputable advantages of coniferous shrubs include the fact that they are evergreens and can delight the owners all year round. Even foliage does not fall from them, and such plants are not demanding to care. Can grow in shade and nutrient-poor soils.
The most popular species are English holly, boxwood, and broadleaf salsa. Some people plant regular spruces or firs, which also look pretty good with proper care. The most important thing is to keep an eye on the plants and to trim and shape - which is the main condition for success in ornamental gardening.
